Hydrocephalus is a complex, life-threatening condition caused by an excessive buildup of cerebrospinal fluid on the brain. Treatment requires brain surgery, most often the placement of a shunt to drain the fluid. The hosts’ children, Kai and Ryder, have confronted this condition in a very personal way. The festival also honors Creole Heritage Month, highlighting the traditions and lasting influence of Creole culture on the border region’s distinctive sound, from zydeco to blues. Houston’s own Keyun and the Zydeco Masters open the show. Bandleader Keyun Dickson began playing accordion at age three, formed his group more than two decades ago, and was the first zydeco winner of Texas Folklife’s Big Squeeze in 2010. The band’s following spans Houston, the wider Texas region, Louisiana, and beyond, and they return to the Miller stage. This is a free, family friendly event. Randy C Moore returns to Green Oaks Tavern for a ticketed performance in the listening room. Admission is $15, and reservations are encouraged for this special show. A Humble, Texas native, Moore began recording as a teenager and, with support from Houston radio personality Arch Yancey of KNUZ, earned notable Texas airplay and appearances at the famed Gilley’s. He studied modern recording and professional songwriting at Belmont University in Nashville, then hit the road opening shows for Hank Williams Jr., David Allen Coe, Amy Grant, Vince Gill, and Lee Ann Rimes. His songwriting partners have included Restless Heart, Pat Bunch, David Lee, and rockabilly legend Carl Perkins. In October 2001 he performed at the Alliance of Neighbour’s 9/11 benefit in Red Bank, New Jersey alongside Bruce Springsteen, Bon Jovi, Phoebe Snow, Joe Ely, and the Smithereens, appearing with members of Elvis Presley’s rhythm section. In October 2023, the CMA of Texas recognized Moore and co-writer Heath Wright with the 2024 Director’s Choice Award for their song A Mother’s Prayer. He continues to share new music around the world, hosts the radio program Neon Music Country Legacy, and is co-producing new recordings with hit-maker Norbert Putnam.
