Crochet Class

Crochet Class meets on the last two Fridays of each month to support beginners and intermediate crafters as they explore seasonal patterns. To celebrate summer, this session focuses on a cheerful sun coaster that can double as wall decor or be made in multiples to create a sunny garland. While the design suits an intermediate skill set, beginners are welcome and will be guided along the way. Completed projects can be donated to Killeen Creators for fundraising or taken home. Techniques featured include the magic ring, chain, half double crochet, single crochet, slip stitch, and puff stitch, making it a good fit for those with beginner to intermediate experience.

OAR - Expressive Writing Lab

OAR, short for Operation Art of Recovery, brings artists and members of the military community together to use creativity as a pathway to healthy distraction, transformative healing, and a better quality of life. Its Expressive Writing Lab centers on therapeutic expression and connection with others, helping participants cultivate inner calm and resilience while emphasizing meaningful experiences and personal recovery resources. Writing and performance often grow naturally from the process. Each session is led by Richard “Shake the Poet” White, a veteran and martial arts instructor who is a published author and an award-winning slam poet, and Kristin “Momma Kay” Wright, founder and executive director of Killeen Creators, a survivor and mental health and addiction recovery advocate whose poetry and plays have been a lifelong practice, with several productions staged at colleges and universities nationwide. Both facilitators draw on years of healing work, writing, and teaching to guide participants in discovering their words and voice. A typical lab includes a review of safe space guidelines, an icebreaker, discussion of the day’s prompt, quiet time to write, optional sharing with optional feedback, an open mic, and a closing. Late arrivals are asked to enter quietly to maintain the flow. Writers and poets of all backgrounds are welcome, and military affiliation is not required. In person attendance is encouraged, with a virtual option available. Snacks and water may be provided when donations allow.

Garden of Hope brings volunteers together to build and sand bed frames that will give children in foster care a safe, comfortable place to sleep. No prior construction experience is required, and hands-on tasks are guided so everyone can contribute. Expect to work alongside others as you measure, sand, assemble, and prepare beds that will soon support kids in the community. Come ready for an outdoor project by wearing clothes you don’t mind getting dusty and closed toe shoes, and dress for the weather. Adults and teens can participate, and children may help when accompanied and supervised by an adult. Individuals, families, church groups, businesses, and community organizations are all included in this effort. Each finished bed adds comfort, dignity, and hope for a child, building brighter nights one bed at a time.

Therapeutic Splatter Painting

This interactive splatter painting session offers a creative, nonverbal way to process feelings connected to recovery and personal growth. Through energetic movement, bold color, and freeform marks, participants can release emotions in a supportive space that welcomes all levels of experience, and no art background is required. The focus is on stress relief, sensory grounding, and exploration without pressure. Using the body to paint can help restore a sense of choice, control, and creativity during difficult seasons. Shared making also encourages connection and community. People healing from substance use, managing mental health needs, moving through life changes, or rebuilding in any form will find an open and welcoming setting, and it is especially comfortable for those who prefer minimal or nonverbal expression. Speaking is optional. This is a fully hands-on experience, and paint will likely get on clothes. Wear something comfortable that can handle splatters.

The format is sealed using only the cards you open, with a 25 card minimum deck and up to three domains of your choice. GUNDAM CARD GAME GD05 Release Event

Underground Games hosts a release event for the GUNDAM CARD GAME set Freedom Ascension [GD05], a 1st Anniversary booster that spotlights Strike Freedom Gundam, ν Gundam, Mobile Fighter G Gundam, Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz, and Char’s Counterattack. The format is 4-pack booster sealed. Each player opens four GD05 booster packs, then builds a 30-card deck with no color restrictions and no limit on copies that share the same card number. Deck construction lasts 35 minutes. Please bring 10 Resource cards along with EX and Base tokens. The entry fee is $40. The tournament uses three Swiss rounds, best of one, with 30-minute rounds, and pairings and results are managed through the BANDAI TCG+ app. Every participant receives GD05-042 Shining Gundam and GD05-120 Shining Finger promo cards, a 1st Anniversary Resource Card Pack containing one random card from eight types, and an SD GUNDAM G Generation Eternal promo code for in-game rewards. The event winner receives an additional set of the Shining Gundam and Shining Finger promos. Underground Games hosts a casual hololive OFFICIAL CARD GAME shop tournament authorized by Bushiroad, using a Standard Constructed format where players bring their own decks. Matches are individual best-of-one in a Swiss structure that can run up to five rounds depending on turnout, and rounds are timed. A minimum of four participants is required for the event to begin, and if time is called during a match it is recorded as a double loss for both players. Entry is $5 per player. Everyone receives one hololive OFFICIAL CARD GAME Monthly Tournament Pack Vol.04 2026 that contains a single card from a pool of fourteen types, including rare processed versions drawn from recent sets. First place earns two additional packs. Two more packs are awarded to one randomly selected participant, and the organizer may also grant one extra participation pack at their discretion. Registration is completed through the Bushi Navi app or via web registration, and deck submission on Bushi Navi is required before the first round. Deck checks may occur. The physical deck must match the Bushi Navi list, with the Oshi holomem and main deck matching by card number and the cheer deck matching by card name. Card rarities do not have to be identical. Players with mismatched lists may be disqualified. Decks must be Standard legal and include a 50 card main deck, a 20 card cheer deck, and one Oshi holomem. Sleeves are required on all cards, and the Oshi, main, and cheer components each need different sleeves. Participants should bring damage counters, an SP Oshi skill counter, and dice, and remain in the tournament area until prizes have been distributed. This HOCGE Shop Tournament is part of an ongoing casual program organized by Bushiroad at authorized local game stores worldwide. Seeds of Recovery is a peer support group rooted in trauma awareness and inclusion, offering a fresh approach to the traditional 12-step model. Each weekly gathering explores one of the program’s 12 Seeds of Recovery, highlighting principles such as awareness, safety, boundaries, and community. Participants take part in facilitated conversation, mindfulness, and optional creative activities like art or journaling. The space is built on empathy, self-reflection, and mutual respect, recognizing recovery as a continuing path of growth. A Block Market distribution at the Kelly Flading Community will offer complimentary fresh fruit, vegetables, and other nutritious market items from Blessings on the Block, with quantities limited. With support from Good360, there will also be a limited supply of boxed Nike shoes for men, women, and children in various sizes. There will not be a place to try on footwear, so please know your shoe size. Blessings on the Block is a 501c3 nonprofit. Donations from individuals, organizations, and businesses help sustain this work, and opportunities exist for those interested in serving as committed volunteers. The focus is on bringing the work beyond the walls.

Hunter Education Course

Designed for novice or young hunters ages 9 and up, this Hunter Education Classroom Course focuses on firearm and hunting safety, responsible hunting practices, and wildlife conservation. All materials are provided. The classroom portion runs up to six hours and does not include time for registration, breaks, testing, or certification card distribution. Certified volunteer instructors lead the course. The certification fee is $15, and some instructors may add range or facility charges. Pre-registration is required, and participants should check with the instructor for directions and any special instructions. Confirm with the instructor that the session is the classroom format. On the day of class, pay the fee to the instructor, attend the full session, and complete the written exam. A score of 75 percent or higher is required to pass. Those who pass may receive a temporary certification card from the instructor. With a valid Texas hunting license and this temporary card, hunting is permitted. The permanent Texas Hunter Education certification card will be available to download and print from your account profile. Clothed With Compassion returns for its fourth year at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Killeen, offering a no-cost, community-wide clothing giveaway for individuals and families across Central Texas. Attendees can browse gently used clothes, coats, and shoes, with thousands of items typically shared each year to help people prepare for school, work, and everyday life. The event welcomes all and allows guests to select what they need without charge. Volunteers and donors are helping in advance by gathering clean, gently used apparel, with a special need for new socks and underwear in unopened packages. Community members, churches, youth groups, and civic organizations can support the effort through setup, service during the giveaway, and cleanup. This year’s initiative also benefits partner organizations. Clothing that is too worn for distribution will go to Ronald McDonald House for textile recycling, generating proceeds to support families receiving care. Additional donations will aid Families in Crisis, local homeless outreach efforts in coordination with the Killeen Police Department, Kids Closet, and the women’s prison system, which has requested women’s pants in sizes 12 to 16. Organizers plan a thank-you brunch for representatives from participating groups to strengthen relationships and explore future collaboration. Past volunteers have described meeting people from many backgrounds and seeing genuine gratitude from families finding clothing for school and daily needs. The focus remains on practical help, community connection, and compassionate service. Dana Peak Trail Run

Set at Dana Peak Park on the north shore of Stillhouse Hollow Lake in Harker Heights, Texas, this trail race weaves through rocky terrain that traces the shoreline. Most of the route is under tree cover with some exposed sections, and runners will climb several peaks along the shore with lake views throughout the course. The 100K covers two 50K loops, with each loop including 3,354 of elevation gain. The park sits about an hour from both Waco and Austin.

The Central Texas Community Expo returns after five years away, offering a family friendly experience with youth and adult talent showcases, area vendors, a college fair, live entertainment, a stroll off featuring National Pan Hellenic Council organizations, a mentor group challenge, and more to explore. The day concludes with the Pink Party after party for adults only. Pink attire is welcomed, and the celebration pairs fun with purposeful giving while also sharing information about breast cancer awareness. Proceeds from the Pink Party benefit the Pearls of Service Foundation Scholarship Fund and the Greater Killeen Community Clinic Mammogram Assistance Program.
