Rene comes from a family that has practiced the craft for sixteen generations. His ancestor Felipe Venegas worked as a silversmith for early cathedrals in the Dominican Republic and helped stamp the first European coins in the New World. He has taught jewelry and silversmithing at Weber State for 15 years and received the Ogden City Mayor’s Art Award for Folk Art.

All tools and materials are provided, and the glass used is borosilicate, commonly known as Pyrex. Participants will create at least two basic marbles, with the possibility of making more if time allows, and individual results will vary. Finished pieces are kiln annealed to strengthen the glass and will be ready for pickup on the next business day.
