Jewelry and Silversmithing Class with Rene on Wednesday mornings

The Local Artisan Collective, 2371 S Kiesel Ave, Ogden
    See details

Create personalized pieces while building silversmithing skills in a welcoming, hands-on class open to every experience level. Learn how to work with essential jewelry tools and materials, then use those techniques to craft items like necklaces, bracelets, earrings, and rings. The format is designed to be ongoing so skills can grow over time, yet attending a single session is also supported. For a one-time visit, common projects include a silver band ring, a ring set with a cabochon, simple earrings, a copper or silver bracelet with or without a cabochon, and a straightforward pendant with or without a cabochon. Registration includes the class plus access to tools and equipment. Metal and stones are not included and may be brought from home or purchased at the store at the time of class. Each session is limited to roughly four or five students to allow plenty of individual instruction. The class is geared toward adults, and mature teens and pre-teens are welcome. Tuition is $40 per class, or $100 for a three-class punch pass. Payment can be made in person at the store or online. If choosing the punch pass, pay for a single class now and the remaining two classes will be prorated during class due to limitations of the online registration system. Cancellations more than seven days before the class receive a full refund minus a $5 fee, and no refunds are available for cancellations within seven days. Sessions take place at The Local Artisan Collective in downtown Ogden, and private classes or parties can be arranged. Instruction is led by Rene Venegas, a 16th generation silversmith who has taught jewelry and silversmithing at Weber State for 15 years. His family’s craft reaches back to early Spanish settlers in the Americas, including Felipe Venegas, a cathedral silversmith in the Dominican Republic who stamped the first European coins in the New World. His work and teaching have been featured by regional media, and he is a recipient of the Ogden City Mayor’s Art Award for Folk Art.

    See details

Manual Cinema, an Emmy Award winning collective for performance, design, and film, presents The 4th Witch at the Val A. Browning Center in the Austad Auditorium. This new tale, inspired by Shakespeare's Macbeth, follows a girl who survives a war and slips into a dark forest. Told entirely without spoken words, the production weaves shadow puppetry, silhouetted performers, and live music to carry the story. It opens the night before Macbeth's forces descend on a small town. After the invasion leaves her orphaned and cast out, a witch rescues her and trains her as an apprentice. As her powers grow, her grief and anger lead her on a path of vengeance against Macbeth for the death of her parents. An inversion of the classic tragedy, the piece reflects on grief, war, generational conflict, and the recurring cycle of violence by focusing on those left in the wake of battle. Tickets are required. Recommended for ages 12 and up.

Experience a guided exploration of consciousness with Brandee Downes, who shares messages from the Egyptian pantheon during reading, healing, and expansion work. The focus is on connecting with universal truths, awakening hidden potential, and fostering transformation that resonates on both personal and cosmic levels. Whether seeking clarity, healing, or a deeper understanding of a spiritual path, this session offers a chance to engage with the mysteries of the ancient world while nurturing the evolution of the soul.
