Curious about working with molten glass? This hands-on lampworking experience introduces the basics of heating and shaping borosilicate glass, often called Pyrex, using a propane and oxygen torch. Safety is emphasized throughout, and all materials and equipment are provided. Over the course of three hours, you will create your own glass marbles, making at least two basic pieces, with the possibility of more if time allows. Individual results will vary. Finished pieces are fired to anneal and strengthen them and will be ready for pickup the following business day.

Drawing on his tour in Iraq’s Anbar Province and his writing on war, service, masculinity, and the long-term impact of conflict, he offers stories and insights that prompt careful reflection. He also examines what it means for a country to wage war when only a small portion of its citizens experience combat firsthand. Klay’s debut collection, Redeployment, received the National Book Award for Fiction and the National Book Critics Circle’s John Leonard Prize, and he later earned an MFA from Hunter College. Manual Cinema, an Emmy Award winning collective for performance, design, and film, presents The 4th Witch at the Val A. Browning Center in the Austad Auditorium. This new tale, inspired by Shakespeare's Macbeth, follows a girl who survives a war and slips into a dark forest. Told entirely without spoken words, the production weaves shadow puppetry, silhouetted performers, and live music to carry the story. It opens the night before Macbeth's forces descend on a small town. After the invasion leaves her orphaned and cast out, a witch rescues her and trains her as an apprentice. As her powers grow, her grief and anger lead her on a path of vengeance against Macbeth for the death of her parents. An inversion of the classic tragedy, the piece reflects on grief, war, generational conflict, and the recurring cycle of violence by focusing on those left in the wake of battle. Tickets are required. Recommended for ages 12 and up.

A visiting artist lecture featuring Melissa Melero-Moose, a Northern Paiute and Modoc mixed-media artist, will be held in the Kimball Arts Building, Room 143. Her practice is rooted in the landscapes and cultural traditions of the Great Basin and incorporates materials such as willow, sand, and reeds to create richly textured abstract works. These pieces draw on Indigenous knowledge, reference basketry traditions, and highlight enduring relationships to land and community. This event is free and open to the public.

The Ogden Santa Run opens the three-race Santa series and covers the longest distance in the lineup. The course begins near the Ogden LDS Temple, winds through downtown for one and a half laps, and finishes in front of the Municipal Building. The finish area sits beside Ogden Christmas Village, known for a full block of cottage-style houses filled with detailed holiday displays. His festival credits include the Vancouver International Comedy Festival, The Boston Comedy Festival, the Aspen Laff Festival, and Gilda’s Laugh Fest in Grand Rapids, Michigan. His routines air weekly on XM Sirius radio, and he has also been heard on NPR, PRI, and Bob and Tom. He recently recorded a second Dry Bar Comedy special for the series’ fourth season, following Poking the Grizzly from its inaugural year. Known offstage for a bit of logistical ditziness, he delivers smart and widely relatable material, and outlets such as Monterey County Weekly have praised his comedy as exceptionally funny.
