The second covers post-firing horsehair application and final finishing. Each session runs two hours. The fee is $80, with a 20 percent discount for members. Open to ages 16 and up, with participants under 18 attending with a parent. Instruction is led by Pat Reiher, an artist and educator with a Fine Arts degree from UW-O who spent 33 years leading the St. Mary’s Springs art department. Her experience includes teaching at the university level, launching adult and youth art programs, and leading residencies and community workshops. Her recognitions include the Kohl Fellowship Award for Achievement in Education, Optimist Educator of the Year, the Windhover Center of the Arts “Windy” Award for furthering the arts in the community, and the National DAR Distinguished Women in the Arts Award. She has been active in numerous arts organizations, has organized and chaired exhibitions and programs, and has exhibited paintings, ceramics, and jewelry nationally in galleries and private collections. Her studio work continues to explore metals and ceramics, emphasizing the interplay of form, space, color, and texture.

    A free four-week youth cross country series takes place at Theisen Middle School, welcoming students entering grade 8 and below from any school district. The registration area is set up on the east side of the building near the east parking lot, with an indoor option just inside door 9 if weather requires it. All races are run on grass on the east side of the campus and around the football field, with the start and finish positioned by the east parking lot, and volunteers are on hand to help. Race distances are organized by grade level, with pre-kindergarten and kindergarten covering one-eighth mile, grades 1 through 3 running one-quarter mile, grades 4 through 6 completing one-half mile, and grades 7 and 8 taking on three-quarters of a mile. Every participant is timed, finishers receive a place card to return at registration for accurate results, and a participation award is provided each week. Water is available for runners and spectators.

    Isthmus Brass

    Isthmus Brass unites top professional brass musicians from across the Midwest to form Wisconsin’s leading large brass ensemble. Founded in Madison in 2009 by accomplished players from southern Wisconsin who wanted to collaborate, the group began by presenting charitable Christmas concerts benefiting Porchlight, Inc., a tradition that has raised more than $150,000 over the years. Their work has reached international audiences with a Summit Records release titled Isthmus Brass Christmas and a second holiday album, We Need a Little Christmas, and they perform year-round on concert series throughout the Midwest with programs that span many styles. This free concert offers a wide-ranging program that includes de Abreu’s Tico Tico, Sousa’s El Capitan, Strauss’s Fanfare Stadt Wien, and Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 3, providing variety for all listeners. Food concessions will not be available. If weather requires a change, the performance will move to the County Fairgrounds. Support for this appearance is provided by Steve and Lynne Uecker, in memory of their daughter Lauren Katharine Uecker, along with John and Sandy Wright and Dr. Steven Meress.
