    September Bird Counters Wanted!

    Winnebago County, 4110 CR-A, Winnebago
    See details

Spend some time birding in Winnebago County while contributing to the yearly September bird count, a 24 hour effort that has taken place since 1995. The goal is simple and engaging, identify birds by sight and by song and keep track of everything observed within the county during the count window. Participation is open to all experience levels, whether on your own or with family and friends. Choose what fits your schedule. Watch your feeders or yard for an hour or all day, explore a route on foot, by bike, or by boat, or focus on one of the county’s popular birding hotspots. To make your observations count, note the number of each species you detect, including common birds such as starlings and house sparrows. Also record the time you spent watching, the distance you traveled, the names of everyone in your party, and provide details for any unusual species or notably high numbers. To help coordinate coverage and avoid duplicate counts, participants are asked to let Tom Ziebell know which area they plan to survey. For questions or to arrange an area to cover, contact Tom at thomasjziebell@gmail.com or 920-312-1976. Whether you can dedicate a full day or just a short window, every checklist helps.

Designed for beginners and experienced knitters alike, the session teaches how to create a blanket using only your hands. Participants leave with a finished, cozy blanket tucked in a blanket bag and a new skill, plus emailed instructions and yarn tips for future projects. Blankets typically start as lap size and often turn out larger, depending on the style you choose. A very tight knit can be about 45 by 42, while most end up bigger. Pre-registration is required, seats are limited, and spaces are filled in the order registrations are received. Capacity is 8 participants, and ages 12 and up can complete a blanket independently. Two pricing options are available. The $65 option lets you choose from the yarn colors brought to the workshop. Registration for the $85 option closes four weeks prior if not sold out, and the $65 option closes two weeks prior if not sold out. If knitting is not your thing, an optional $35 add-on can have your blanket made for you and ready at the workshop. Purchase this at least two weeks in advance.
