Stop number 11 in the Sandy Knoll Monthly FleX Series features a flex-start disc golf format with check-in at the pro shop. The Basic Pistol Course at Midwestern Shooter's Supply offers a welcoming introduction to responsible handgun ownership, designed for newcomers seeking clear, professional instruction in a structured setting. Participants begin with essential safety principles and consistent safe handling habits that apply at home, during transport, and on the range. The class explains the key parts of a pistol and how they work together, then moves into ammunition basics, common handgun calibers, and how to choose rounds that support both safety and reliability. Students learn to load and unload correctly, perform chamber checks, and operate a pistol with confidence before transitioning to shooting skills. Core fundamentals such as grip, stance, sight picture and alignment, trigger control, and follow through are taught in a straightforward, repeatable way that builds accuracy and control. The course also covers how to recognize and clear typical malfunctions while maintaining careful muzzle control, and it concludes with practical guidance on secure storage to prevent unauthorized access. A supervised range session ties everything together, allowing participants to apply what they learned under close instructor oversight, with an emphasis on deliberate, high quality shots rather than volume. There are no prerequisites. The course fee is $75. Plan to bring 50 to 100 rounds of ammunition, eye and ear protection, a handgun, a beverage or snack, a valid driver’s license or ID, and closed toe shoes. Complimentary rentals are available for eye and ear protection and for a firearm if needed, and ammunition can be purchased if necessary. Come ready to learn and build confidence step by step.

This hands-on chunky knit blanket workshop pairs cozy crafting with drinks and snacks. It welcomes beginners and experienced knitters, guiding participants to make lap blankets using only their hands. Everyone leaves with a finished blanket tucked into a blanket bag, plus emailed instructions and yarn buying tips for future projects. Blanket size varies based on a loose or tight style. The tightest knit typically measures about 45 by 42, and most turn out larger. Pre registration is required. Seating is limited and first come first served, with 14 spots available. Two pricing options are offered. The $65 option lets participants choose from yarn colors brought to the workshop and closes two weeks prior if not sold out. The $85 option features premium yarn that is softer and thicker and helps hide imperfections. It includes preselecting one or two colors by email about four weeks in advance and closes four weeks prior if not sold out. Recommended for ages 12 and up to work independently. An optional $35 add on is available for anyone who prefers the social experience without the knitting. With this package the blanket is completed in advance and ready at the workshop. Land of Sweets presents an adaptation of the classic ballet The Nutcracker performed by students from the Schauer School of the Arts. After a cheerful holiday gathering with friends, Clara drifts to sleep and journeys in a dream to the Land of Sweets, where she encounters the Sugar Plum Fairy, the Snow Queen, nutcrackers, mice, flowers, candies, and other confections and surprises. When the adventure concludes, she awakens and discovers it was all a dream. Local youth take the stage, and the event is part of the Neil E. Park Family Foundation Family Series. The program also features a performance by an Irish troupe. Tickets are $12 for adults and $6 for children.

The Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra presents a program of signature big band favorites, with classics like Green Eyes, Amapola, Tangerine, I Understand, I’m Glad There Is You, and Maria Elena among the featured hits. The ensemble is led by David Pruyn, a New Orleans born musician who grew up in a family of professionals. He began performing at age 11 as a circus drummer for his bandleader father, later taking up the trumpet inspired by Harry James. After refining both instruments in the circus repertoire, he moved into big band, jazz, and show work, and went on to study arranging, orchestration, and conducting. In 1994 he added vocals to his toolkit, drawing comparisons to Mel Tormé and receiving mentorship from Broadway vocal coach Fred Silver. His experience includes playing first trumpet, drums, and singing with the bands of Jimmy Dorsey, Tommy Dorsey, Harry James, and Les Brown. This event is part of the Forte Bank Main Stage Series and is supported by the Wisconsin Automotive Museum. Tickets are available at $59, $49, $44, and $35.
