    Woodland Study

    Appleton · 1923 Legacy Lounge, 2320 S Memorial Dr

Explore the textures, colors, and quiet magic of late fall in a hands-on mixed media assemblage workshop that builds a layered botanical scene on an architectural wood arch panel. Participants paint and finish the arch with warm metallic gold and rich contrasting tones, then bring the composition to life by painting dimensional cast elements and experimenting with color, texture, and surface treatments. Using hand-painted cast mushrooms, preserved mosses, botanical details, a cast beetle, metallic accents, and other nature-inspired materials, each person arranges and assembles a composition that feels part study, part woodland still life, and part keepsake from a naturalist’s cabinet. A central focus is the art of assemblage, learning how shapes, textures, hues, and visual weights interact to create depth, movement, and balance. Rather than following a single template, participants make creative choices so every finished piece reflects a personal point of view. Bright preserved moss adds a fresh counterpoint to the deeper woodland palette, while mushrooms, botanicals, natural textures, and touches of antique gold lend an old-world character. All materials and tools are provided, including the wood arch substrate, dimensional cast elements, preserved mosses, curated botanicals, acrylic and metallic paints, and mixed media supplies. Guided instruction covers painting, composition, layering, and final assembly. Everyone departs with a completed assemblage measuring approximately 13 inches tall by 7 inches wide, ready to display on a small tabletop easel or to hang after adding hardware. No prior mixed media or assemblage experience is needed. Participants may optionally bring a small personal item such as a dried botanical, found object, bead, charm, or similar embellishment to make the piece uniquely their own. Cost is $50 per participant. Seating is limited, pre-registration is required, and no walk-ins are accepted.
