Live and Local at The Observatory Bar features Huntsville native Matt Michael, active on the North Alabama and Southern Tennessee music scene since 2008. In addition to solo acoustic performances, he plays bass with the local band Dr. Whateva, a longstanding part of the Huntsville music scene, and collaborates with acoustic duos around town. He performs a mix of popular hits and original songs. He released the album Second Coming in January 2026, along with a video for its featured track Slipping Away.

Wyatt Ellis Band brings a bluegrass performance to the historic McCandless Hall at Athens State University. Raised in East Tennessee, mandolinist and multi-instrumentalist Wyatt Ellis has quickly emerged as a standout young figure in the genre. A dedicated student of Bill Monroe, he has learned from respected mentors such as Bobby Osborne, written original instrumental works, and progressed from practicing at home to sharing the stage with bluegrass legends and Hall of Famers. His deep focus on the music during the pandemic accelerated his growth, leading to mastery of the mandolin and the addition of vocals and other instruments. He has been invited to appear with many of today’s notable artists, and in 2024 he received the International Bluegrass Music Association Momentum Instrumentalist of the Year award.

Bluegrass standout Wyatt Ellis brings music rooted in the traditions of East Tennessee. Inspired by Bill Monroe and guided by bluegrass luminaries such as Bobby Osborne, he studied with leading mandolin players and began writing original instrumentals. What started as a living room pursuit during the pandemic grew into appearances alongside bluegrass legends and Hall of Famers. In just a few years he has emerged as a skilled mandolinist as well as a vocalist and multi-instrumentalist, and in 2024 he earned the International Bluegrass Music Association’s Momentum Instrumentalist of the Year award.

Karaoke takes center stage at The 19th Hole, a local dive bar in Huntsville. Participants can perform favorite songs in an easygoing setting.

At the Historic Tip Top Cafe, a weekly blues jam brings together seasoned pros and first timers in a welcoming setting. Hosted by Otis Walker, born in Memphis, who cut his teeth in the Shoals and is one of the busiest musicians in the Huntsville music scene, the jam runs without sign up sheets. Share the weekly password at the stage, and Otis will plug you in. A backline is provided, so musicians only need to bring themselves and their instrument. Each week, standout players trade fours with Otis right alongside newcomers taking the stage for the first time, creating a supportive room where everyone can be heard. Musicians often travel from Birmingham, the Shoals, and Middle Tennessee to take part. Launched in the summer of 2024 and now at home at the Historic Tip Top Cafe, this tradition celebrates blues, community, and good vibes. Everyone is welcome.

Celebrating the 33rd season of the City Lights & Stars Concert Series at Burritt on the Mountain, this performance spotlights Huntsville’s In the Mood with title sponsorship from Redstone Federal Credit Union. The ensemble is a traditional 21-piece Glenn Miller style big band from Huntsville, created to honor Glenn Miller’s legacy while introducing new audiences to popular music from the big band era performed by local musicians. Sometimes nicknamed the Glenn Miller band of North America, the group seeks to capture the authentic sound of 1940s and 1950s greats such as Benny Goodman, Frank Sinatra, and Bobby Darin, offering swing tunes that appeal to all ages. Guests may bring chairs, blankets, and a picnic. Food trucks will offer food and desserts for purchase, and beer and wine will be available for purchase. Outside alcohol is not permitted. Members receive an exclusive ticket presale. Online ticket sales end the day of the concert or when sold out. All ticket purchases are non-refundable and are considered a tax-deductible donation. The concert location is set according to the day’s weather forecast. In case of rain, the event moves to the Bendickson Family Pavilion. If the concert must be cancelled due to inclement weather or other circumstances beyond control, ticket purchases will be treated as a tax-deductible donation to Burritt on the Mountain, and ticket purchasers will receive cancellation notices by email.

Golden Hour offers an easygoing start to the weekend with live music, time in nature, and a welcoming community vibe as the light fades. Held on select Fridays from May through September, the gathering centers in the Cedar Glade while the sound carries across the Garden, creating a relaxed setting for picnics, unhurried walks, and settling in with friends. With support from the Huntsville Music Office and the City of Huntsville’s Office of Multicultural Affairs, admission is free during event hours, and closing times vary by month. The Garden Bar serves beverages with and without alcohol for purchase, and Fern & Feast On-The-Go prepares fresh, made to order concessions for an easy meal outdoors. On the third Friday of May, June, July, and August, the evening also features a mini market of local makers for an added creative touch.

Earlier releases Noise Complaint and Sellout delivered certified favorites including Love with Parker McCollum, Something to Talk About, Drunk Driving, Good Die Young, and Kuntry & Wistern, while Hell Paso reached No. 3 on Billboard’s Country Albums chart with hits on both the country and rock charts, including the Gold-certified Creeps and Cabo. With 4.2 billion total streams and a reputation for anything-can-happen live shows, this tour stop centers that charged energy with support from a multi-artist bill.

Relive the 1990s at a throwback party at The Beerhog - Madison, celebrating the decade with a nostalgic atmosphere.

The Huntsville Sacred Chorale presents a free choral concert featuring Leonard Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms, a program that blends ancient psalm texts with soaring melodies and rhythmic vitality, all shaped by the composer’s distinctive style. The performance takes place at Huntsville First United Methodist Church. Admission is free and everyone is welcome.

This event at The Beer Hog - Madison features line dancing, country swing, trailride, and partner dances with an all-levels, all-genres, all-requests format. The flow includes a beginner bootcamp, an open segment for all levels, an improver-plus lesson, and a steal circle. DJ Mr. Requests provides the music with crowd favorites. The Beer Hog offers Boots & Beats drink specials along with 64 taps of craft beer, hot pizza, wings, appetizers, and more. A $7 cover includes the lessons and entertainment. Ages 13 and up are welcome. Outside food or drinks are not permitted, and purchasing food or beverages supports the venue. Filming may occur and videos from the event may be shared.

Matt Prater brings a live, local performance to The Observatory Bar with a set rooted in country, honky tonk, folk and roots rock. The North Alabama singer songwriter is known for plainspoken storytelling and a warm, melodic voice that draws listeners into vivid scenes of family, humble beginnings, honky tonk tales and Southern tradition. His catalog includes the albums Small Town Son (2010), The Mountain (2013), Tables and Chairs (2015), Same Ole Highway Blues (2017), and Ain't Life A Trip (2021), along with multiple singles released in 2022 and 2023. Beyond his own independently produced projects, he has also written custom songs for others. On the road, he keeps a busy schedule at songwriter showcases, music venues and festivals, often sharing rounds with hit writers and respected performers, and has opened for several major artists. Expect songs that resonate across generations, delivered with deep roots and an authentic country feel.
