The program also addresses identification of common pests and diseases and emphasizes sustainable approaches that keep plantings vigorous. Content includes integrated pest management for soft fruits, current research on parasitoid wasps and strategies for managing spotted wing drosophila (SWD), plus in-field demonstrations and conversations with growers. The day concludes with a visit to The People’s Patch Madison County Community Farm for a tour of elderberry plantings and a discussion of production practices in real-world conditions. Presenters include David Buehler, a fourth-generation farmer and owner of Elder Farms in Mount Vernon, Missouri, one of the nation’s largest organic commercial elderberry operations, continuing a family tradition dating to 1899 and supporting American elderberries through production, research, and education; Dr. Olufemi (Femi) Ajayi, an entomologist and plant protection specialist who directs the Industrial Hemp and Specialty Crops Program at Alabama State University and focuses on IPM, biological control, sustainable crop protection, and insect ecology; Holt Akers-Campbell, commercial horticulture Extension agent with the Alabama Cooperative Extension System at Auburn University whose work centers on sustainable food and landscape systems and who is pursuing doctoral research at Mississippi State University to improve the yield and quality of Passiflora incarnata grown as a medicinal herb; and Dr. Clement Akotsen-Mensah, an entomologist and IPM specialist with the Alabama Cooperative Extension System at Alabama A&M University who leads initiatives in environmentally responsible pest management, food security, and agricultural innovation and collaborates widely to turn science into practical solutions for growers, including efforts to advance sustainable elderberry production. This program is supported by a SARE-funded project, OS25-185, assessing the sustainability of soft fruit and berry crop production in Alabama. The circle uses an energy exchange approach rooted in mutual support, with a suggested contribution of 9 dollars per meeting and two complimentary seats available each session for those unable to pay. It is a nationally organized and widely recognized program sponsored by New Balance, and this offering is specific to the Madison PM group. Over eight weeks, participants receive two group training sessions each week, informational newsletters, a daily training schedule, and educational clinics. While the focus is on newcomers, walkers, walk runners, and runners of all paces are welcome, and the environment is inclusive of every shape and speed. Training centers on preparing for the Liz Hurley 5k as the goal event. The program is free, and race registration is not included. Sessions take place on Mondays and Wednesdays at Fleet Feet Madison. This track workout at Bob Jones High School centers on 1K repeats that feel simple at the start and increasingly demanding by the fourth rep. Arrive a little early to jog a few easy laps so you are warmed up before the work begins. The session opens with a pre-set of two to four rounds of 200 meters fast followed by 200 meters easy to prime the legs. The main set is run at current 5K effort, strong and controlled rather than all-out. Beginners complete three 1,000 meter repeats with three to four minutes of standing recovery, focusing on even splits and learning the true feel of 5K pace. Intermediate runners do five 1,000 meter repeats with 90 seconds of standing rest, keeping the pace honest across the set. Advanced athletes take on six 1,000 meter repeats with a 400 meter jog at about three quarters effort between reps, keeping the float uncomfortable but manageable as the final reps require extra focus. The goal is steady pacing, smart recovery, and consistent execution from the first interval to the last.

While the focus is on newcomers, walkers and runners of all levels are welcome and the environment is inclusive for all body types and paces. Commander Bracket 3 invites competitors to a $6 entry event shaped by clear limits on combos and pacing. Infinite loops are restricted to five before turn six, and a win cannot be secured prior to the active player's sixth turn. Combos may use two pieces, with the commander excluded from that count. Effects that wipe out opponents' lands are not allowed. As many as three Game Changers are permitted, and nonland tutors are capped at four.

Hosted at JC's House of Cards, this competitive tournament uses Swiss pairings with 50 minute rounds, then cuts to single elimination in line with Magic Tournament Rules at Competitive Rules Enforcement Level. Entry is $30. Standard match scoring applies, awarding three points for a win, one for a draw, and zero for a loss. Proxies are allowed for Reserved List cards, but they must be printed with original art and borders, and handwritten or marker-style versions are not permitted.
