Spa City Open

The third annual Spa City Open brings scratch singles competition to Central Bowling Lanes. Entry is $200 with a 1-in-4 payout, and all rounds are contested on a medium-difficulty oil pattern. The action opens with a four-game sweeper on the tournament pattern, then moves to seven games of qualifying split into A, B, and C squads, each limited to 48 entries. Cashers advance to a five-game round, and the field then narrows to the top 16 for best two-of-three match play. Prize fund details will be announced. Recent champions include Mykel Holliman in 2024 and Eric Jones in 2025.

Southern Theatre Company presents three days of staged readings featuring new plays by Lia Romeo, Samuel Brett Williams, and Lee Blessing, with work from writers ranging from New York to California. These plays have not yet been produced, offering an early look at fresh writing. Doors open one hour before each reading for a social hour and meet and greet. Post show discussions with the actors and playwrights follow every performance.

Sessions cover ACT preparation, test-taking strategies, substance awareness and prevention, STEM activities, leadership development, financial literacy, and additional topics. A community catfish fry on the shores of Lake Hamilton raises support for Beautiful Life Recovery House. Expect fresh catfish cooked on site by All Star Catfish, live music from Steve Malec, and ice-cold Milo’s tea and lemonade. The setting is family friendly with space to gather, visit, and enjoy the lake. Boat access is available. The format is come and go. Lawn chairs are welcome. With platinum support from Pafford Medical Services, ticket and sponsorship contributions help fund a transitional home that will provide safe housing, trauma-informed support, and vital resources for women and children.

Crochet Club gathers this month for a friendly session focused on cute heart bookmarks, or participants can bring their own projects to work on while sharing space and creating with love. All crochet levels are welcome. The entry fee is a drink or cafe purchase, and tips are welcome for the facilitators. Attendees will compare and contrast projects, help each other with stitches, build community, and enjoy dedicated practice time. Crochet kits will be available for the heart bookmark project, or you can bring your own yarn, needles, and supplies. A small selection of items and beginner kits will also be available for purchase. This is a learning-centered gathering, not a networking group, and soliciting others for payment is not permitted. Think book club, but with yarn. CJ'z Foundation H12 Scotch Doubles 8b

CJ'z Foundation brings a benefit pool tournament built on the successful CJ'z Downtown Billiards format, refined after a smooth trial at Legacy and open to continued improvements based on feedback. A previous event delivered $3,200 in player payouts while contributing $3,120 to the foundation. New this month is a 50/50 raffle supporting St. Jude's, with tickets priced at $5 each or five for $20 and a drawing the same day. A silent auction will also be held, with 15 percent of the auction pot donated, and item donations are welcome for both the raffle and the auction. The competition is team-based with a $100 entry, split as a $50 green fee donated in full to the foundation and $50 to the payout. The bracket is double elimination. Race lengths are set at 5 for H11/12, 4 for H9/10, and 3 for H8 or lower. On the losers side, the race drops by one game unless facing a team racing to 3. Rules highlights include keeping the set you pocket on the break, an 8 on the break counting as a win, jump shots allowed with the playing cue, winner breaks while the opponent racks, and one timeout per rack. Handicaps are based on APA 8-ball ratings, with the tournament director holding final authority. There is currently no cap on teams, and race lengths may be adjusted depending on turnout. Pre-registration is available, and non-players are welcome to attend, enjoy the atmosphere, and support the fundraiser.

Discover how creek-dwelling critters reveal water quality during a free, hands-on outing led by Hannah, trail coordinator for the City of Hot Springs Parks and Recreation Department. Participants explore the Hot Springs Creek Greenway Trail near the train trestle in search of biological indicators and other small creatures, blending outdoor fun with science as part of a weather dependent, three-part summer series. Dip nets and identification guides are provided for use during the program, and take-home goodies from the Garland County Conservation District are available while supplies last. Six baseball greats gather in Hot Springs for the 9th annual celebration of the city's baseball heritage, honoring its place as the birthplace of Major League Baseball spring training. Hall of Famers Goose Gossage, Fred McGriff, and Jack Morris headline the lineup, joined by Dale Murphy, Bill "Spaceman" Lee, and Al Hrabosky. McGriff and Morris appear for the first time at this event, while popular guests from earlier years return. The program features conversations with the legends, opportunities for fan interaction, a large baseball card show, and additional activities.

Opening night brings Sweeney Todd, The Demon Barber of Fleet Street to Downtown Hot Springs in a staging from The Pocket Community Theatre. Hot Springs 150th Birthday Gala

Hot Springs marks 150 years with a festive gala at the Hot Springs Convention Center, presented by Oaklawn. The celebration features a cocktail reception, an elegant seated dinner, celebrity guest speakers, live entertainment, and a ceremonial cake cutting. Each attendee receives a commemorative coin honoring the sesquicentennial. Proceeds support the Garland County Historical Society and its work to preserve and share the city’s history. The Arkansas singer songwriter has been performing in recent years at festivals, listening rooms, and private gatherings, accompanying herself on guitar and keyboard. Her sound draws from country, pop, punk, alternative, and classic rock, anchored by a distinctive vocal style. Explore the market’s vendors and soak in the lively atmosphere while the music plays.

HSSC RD #6 Class 1 & 2 10 Gate Comp/Micro Comp

Drivers in Trail Class (Class 1) and Modified Class (Class 2) take on two courses per class, each laid out with ten gates and two optional bonus gates. Scoring rewards precision, with the best possible result at negative forty, and the total for the day combines your results from both courses in each class you enter. Each course runs under a set time limit, and exceeding it results in a DNF. A winch is highly recommended. After tech inspection, a drivers meeting sets the stage, then a chip draw determines start order and competition begins. The entry fee is $10 for each class per driver. Payouts are awarded each competition, with 50 percent for first place, 30 percent for second, and 20 percent for third, and if there are fewer than ten drivers the full purse goes to first place. A 1/24 scale competition will also be running. Event details are subject to change.

MSJ OFFROAD HOTSPRINGS RIDE & TRAIL GUIDE PREP DAY

MSJ Offroad is hosting a day ride and Trail Guide prep session at Hot Springs Off Road Park focused on scouting lines, fine-tuning rigs, and helping both new and returning guides get ready for Fall Run. Meet at the pavilion for a pre-ride drivers meeting, then groups will be formed based on turnout before heading onto the trails. This is a chance to learn the park, explore guiding or gunning, or simply enjoy a ride without taking on a guide role. Bring lunch, drinks, and recovery gear, and plan for a training-focused day with the MSJ community. All experience levels are welcome, all 4x4s are welcome, and side-by-sides are included. Paid MSJ Offroad members who check in through the MSJ app will receive a participation entry toward the 20th Anniversary drawing.

Hot Springs Historic Downtown Farmers Market

Tour de Salvation 2026

Now in its fourth edition, this community ride through Hot Springs welcomes families and cyclists of all experience levels while raising awareness and funds for the Salvation Army’s Pathway of Hope to support families in crisis and help break cycles of generational poverty. The experience begins at the Hot Springs Historic Downtown Farmers Market and highlights the city on pavement as well as the nearby mountains on dirt. Riders can choose a 6 mile family route, a 20 mile east route, a 23 mile hilly road course through Hot Springs, a 24 mile mountain bike only option, or a 45 mile combination that blends road and MTB. A shuttle will move bikes at the exchange point for the multi bike option, and support vehicles with aid stations will be available on every route. Registration includes food and drink, a T-shirt, and additional swag, and riders must display their bib number to receive food and to access designated areas. An after party at the Farmers Market features live music, hot dogs and hamburgers served by the Salvation Army Canteen, and family friendly fun, with tickets available for those who are not riding. Medical support will be on site, although comfort medications such as aspirin, ibuprofen, or Tylenol will not be provided, so participants should bring their own. Hotel Hot Springs offers a discounted rate for cyclists at the start and finish location, with the discount applied when participation in Tour de Salvation is mentioned. Registration will open soon.

The second annual women’s health expo returns to the Oaklawn Event Center, building on strong momentum from last year. The previous installment brought together more than 70 exhibitors and over 450 attendees, provided 151 on-site health screenings and 152 medical referrals, featured 133 participants in panel conversations, and offered 72 hands-on demonstrations. Exhibitor registration is open to healthcare and medical providers, wellness, fitness, and nutrition services, beauty and personal care businesses, women-owned retail and boutique vendors, financial and legal planning professionals covering areas such as estate planning, elder law, and medical directives, and community organizations focused on health, caregiving, or women’s services. Certain vendor categories have restrictions, with specifics outlined in the registration information.

Birding Festival of the South

The inaugural Birding Festival of the South, presented by Oaklawn, brings bird lovers together in Hot Springs, Arkansas. The program includes field trips, live music, keynote speakers, workshops, panel discussions, activities for kids, arts and crafts, and a vendor hall. Featured guests include Alison Kondler of Birding by Ear, birding advocate and singer-songwriter Bonner Black, and nationally acclaimed country artist Melissa Carper, along with others. Weekend passes are $35. Registration is required for field trips and capacities may vary, and some exclusive outings with provided transportation are not included with the general pass. Hot Springs offers a rich setting for birdwatching, with extensive trails in Hot Springs National Park and at Northwoods Trails, the vast Ouachita National Forest, the 210-acre Garvan Woodland Gardens, specialized ponds at the Andrew Hulsey Fish Hatchery, and miles of shoreline along Lakes Hamilton, Catherine, Ouachita and DeGray.
