It traces that lineage to Dizzy Gillespie’s landmark collaboration with Cuban percussionist Chano Pozo, a partnership that helped ignite a musical revolution. Signature pieces such as A Night in Tunisia, Manteca, Tin Tin Deo, and Cubana Be, Cubana Bop will be brought to life with driving rhythms, fiery solos, and contagious energy that promises to set The Shell in motion. The San Diego Symphony Orchestra does not appear on this program.

The Spreckels Organ Society presents the season finale of the 38th Annual San Diego International Summer Organ Festival, billed as the largest organ festival in the United States, at the Spreckels Organ Pavilion. ORGAN-ISM, the Pavilion’s rock band and described as the only rock group anywhere to feature a real pipe organ, performs hits by The Doors, Led Zeppelin, Van Halen, Aretha Franklin, Tina Turner, Deep Purple and more. The historic Spreckels Organ takes center stage for this rock-driven final concert.
