A bring your own computer LAN gathering at San Diego LAN invites participants to set up their own rigs and play together on a local network. Attendees should come prepared with a signed waiver, their computer and monitor, a keyboard, a mouse with a pad, and the power and video cables required for their setup. A wired network cable at least ten feet long is needed, with Cat5e or Cat6 preferred, and a limited number will be available on site for $10 if someone forgets. A headset is recommended for communication. To help keep connections fast, update games and launchers before arrival, including services like Steam or Epic and titles such as League of Legends or other Java-based games. If planning to sit outdoors, bring a chair because only a small number are available at the venue. Anyone staying overnight should pack basics like a toothbrush, sleep gear such as a sleeping bag or blanket with a pillow, and a tent is acceptable.

Open auditions for Kidz Danz Kompany’s production of The Nutcracker welcome dancers from age 4 to adults, regardless of experience. No studio enrollment is required and nonmembers may participate. Rehearsals and performances take place at MP Dance in La Mesa. Each year the company offers a fresh interpretation of this holiday classic with inventive storytelling and choreography across multiple dance styles, giving performers opportunities to showcase their strengths while creating a lively experience for audiences. Auditions are used to determine casting and placement, and everyone who completes registration and auditions is guaranteed a role. The role of Clara is available to dancers ages 9 to 18, and those candidates also take part in the general audition for ensemble and featured parts. Dancers should wear fitted dance attire with hair secured and bring appropriate shoes such as ballet, jazz, or pointe if available. No advance choreography or prepared material is required. Auditions are closed to observers, so parents and friends wait outside unless they are auditioning. Casting will be announced after auditions, and a detailed rehearsal schedule will follow. Not all dancers will be called to every rehearsal. All participants should complete the required registration form and list any scheduling conflicts on the audition form. Unreported conflicts may not be approved and could affect participation, and conflicts are not permitted during technical and dress rehearsals or on performance dates.

At The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park, the music of Miles Davis, Sonny Rollins, and Dizzy Gillespie anchors an evening led by Gilbert Castellanos, Jazz Curator for the San Diego Symphony and a ten-time San Diego Music Award winner, with the 17-piece KSDS Jazz Orchestra. The program honors the innovators who fused jazz with Afro-Cuban traditions and shaped the course of Latin Jazz. It traces that lineage to Dizzy Gillespie’s landmark collaboration with Cuban percussionist Chano Pozo, a partnership that helped ignite a musical revolution. Signature pieces such as A Night in Tunisia, Manteca, Tin Tin Deo, and Cubana Be, Cubana Bop will be brought to life with driving rhythms, fiery solos, and contagious energy that promises to set The Shell in motion. The San Diego Symphony Orchestra does not appear on this program.

Each ticket includes a guided wellness session by Chocolate Yoga Destinations, with a suggestion to bring a mat or blanket for a sound bath, a thoughtfully curated ambiance, food and refreshments by Board and Boujee and Casa De Otay, all coloring materials plus a take-home Illustrated Melanin coloring book, and an intimate space to relax and connect. This class for beginners introduces the foundations of Zen meditation with guidance from OG Zen Collective. Participants learn how to practice zazen, relax the body and mind, focus attention, and maintain proper meditation posture. The session also covers key elements of Zen teachings and the etiquette observed in the meditation room, or zendo. Several Buddhist meditation methods are presented, and there is time to ask questions. The class is free, donations are appreciated. Comfortable clothing is recommended.

The Spreckels Organ Society presents the season finale of the 38th Annual San Diego International Summer Organ Festival, billed as the largest organ festival in the United States, at the Spreckels Organ Pavilion. ORGAN-ISM, the Pavilion’s rock band and described as the only rock group anywhere to feature a real pipe organ, performs hits by The Doors, Led Zeppelin, Van Halen, Aretha Franklin, Tina Turner, Deep Purple and more. The historic Spreckels Organ takes center stage for this rock-driven final concert.

This Monday event centers on salsa and bachata dancing. Admission is $10, and members attend at no additional cost. A monthly option offers eight classes for $60 and includes a complimentary social.
