    Tattoo Nation

The State Theatre, 1307 J St, Modesto · verified Oct 9
    See details

A special screening of Tattoo Nation features Good Time Charlie, followed by a conversation with film producer David Oropeza and Good Time Charlie. The documentary delves into the work of three trailblazers, Charlie Cartwright, Jack Rudy, and Freddy Negrete, whose artistry helped transform tattooing and shift public perception. Once linked to images of outlaw bikers, sailors on leave, and people serving long prison terms, tattoos are now widespread, with approximately one in three adults under 40 in the United States wearing them. The film traces how tattooing moved from simple marks on the skin to a meaningful vehicle for self-expression and spotlights the artists who propelled this cultural change.

    2nd Annual Modesto Confidential

The State Theatre, 1307 J St, Modesto
    See details

At the State Theatre, Modesto Confidential brings real detectives to the stage to share how two homicide cases were solved, taking the audience beyond the tape to hear about wrong turns, pivotal evidence, and the moments that pushed each investigation forward. One presentation examines the killing of Diasia Seese, which came to light when flooding at a Best Western led staff to a room where a young woman had been found concealed in a bathtub filled with water. The search for the suspect extended beyond Modesto and drew investigators to the levees near the Stockton Delta. The other presentation focuses on the Garrison Park case, where 63-year-old Jace Decker was brutally attacked, received emergency medical care, and after 11 days succumbed to his injuries. Detectives combined determination with technology, using city surveillance footage and extensive social media records to trace the movements of those involved and build the case piece by piece. Before the presentations, ticketholders can enjoy complimentary specialty drinks and appetizers from local vendors, and the program includes raffle drawings. This is a 21 and over event. Presented by the Modesto Police Investigators Association, a nonprofit that supports victims and families affected by violent crime, contributes funding to cold case homicide investigations, and provides advanced training for detectives. All proceeds support these efforts.

3rd Annual B&b Pumpkin Patch Event

Board & Brush Creative Studio, 3020 Floyd Ave, Modesto · verified Oct 9
    See details

Enjoy a quick, hands-on pumpkin patch crafting session designed for all ages. For $20, each participant creates a set of three wooden pumpkins chosen from the patch. The pumpkins come pre-painted in orange shades, and you personalize them by selecting from a variety of face designs to stencil in black or white. Expect the project to take about 15 to 20 minutes from start to finish. Reservations are optional and can secure a seat, and walk-ins are welcome while space is available. One reserved seat includes one chair and one set of three pumpkins. If multiple people want to make their own sets, each person should reserve a seat. Seating is not assigned, so groups that want to sit together should arrive together. Parents may assist their children without purchasing their own set, but since one seat equals one chair, adults who are not crafting may need to stand behind their child.
