The ACA Level 4 Swiftwater Rescue course builds the skills needed to recognize and avoid common river hazards, perform self rescue, and carry out rescues for paddlers in distress. Emphasis is placed on personal safety and practical, commonly used techniques. Training covers both foundational skills and higher risk situations such as strainers, rescue vest applications, entrapments, and pins. Scenario based practice gives participants the chance to apply techniques on their own and as part of a team. The curriculum promotes proactive prevention of river accidents and injuries, develops key self rescue abilities, deepens understanding of hydrology and river features to help identify and avoid hazards, and focuses on fast, low risk strategies for early incident management. Participants learn methods for recovering swimmers as well as loose boats and equipment, refine rope based and in water skills, gain experience using a rescue PFD while understanding its strengths and limitations, and apply rescue scene management principles within a paddling group. To participate, individuals should be able to breathe independently without medical devices, maintain sealed airways underwater, hold the head upright without support, manage personal care and mobility independently or with reasonable assistance, and follow instructions and communicate independently or with help from a companion. They should also be able to rotate from face down to face up and float on their back while wearing a properly fitted PFD, get into and out of a paddlecraft with little or reasonable assistance, exit from under a capsized craft independently, remount or reenter after a deep water capsize with minimal assistance, maintain a safe body position while attempting course skills and rescues, and recognize and communicate when an effort would be unsafe for their personal situation. Minimum personal equipment includes a PFD intended for whitewater use, with a rescue PFD recommended, a whitewater helmet, protective clothing suitable for extended swimming in cold water, protective footwear, and when needed a boat and paddle. Additional items include a whistle, a throw rope, at least 15 feet of one inch tubular nylon webbing, two locking carabiners, and two prussic loops. Most of this gear may be available to rent. Pricing is presented up front with no hidden fees.

Strengthen your backcountry navigation skills in Colorado through an immersive two day course that pairs time tested techniques with modern technology. Participants may take either of the two modules on their own or complete both together at a discounted rate. Each module blends classroom learning with practical field application so concepts are practiced in real terrain. The first module centers on analog navigation with a map and compass. Topics include an introduction to navigation and route finding, a deeper look at topographic maps, exercises that build map interpretation skills, compass fundamentals, and taking as well as following bearings. Field scenarios reinforce decision making and route selection, and the skills taught remain reliable without relying on a phone’s GPS or battery life. The second module focuses on digital tools and how to integrate them effectively. Participants receive an overview of digital navigation, an introduction to mapping platforms, and a full route planning session using CalTopo. Practice includes trip planning exercises, sharing CalTopo plans with others, GPS tracking and offline map use in the field, scenario based navigation that combines analog and digital methods, and strategies for extending battery life when it matters most. Across both modules, the course develops the ability to plan efficient routes, maintain orientation, and adapt to changing conditions. Emphasis is placed on real world decision making, risk management, and the thoughtful integration of analog and digital systems for confident and safe travel in Colorado and beyond. Included with instruction are a professional, experienced instructor, a printed topographic map, and a certificate of completion. Participants provide their own food, snacks, and water, and should bring a baseplate compass such as a Suunto A-10 or an equivalent model. Instructor gratuity is not included.

Settle into Francie’s Cabin in the Crystal Basin just south of Breckenridge, a beloved backcountry retreat at 11,264 feet surrounded by the Ten Mile Range, alpine lakes, wildflowers, and high-country trails. Your group has the cabin entirely to yourselves while professional, friendly mountain guides are with you throughout the experience, both on the trail and back at the table. Each morning features a hike tailored to your energy and interests, ranging from a relaxed outing to Crystal Lakes to a full summit attempt on Crystal Peak at 13,852 feet when conditions are right. Afternoons bring you back to the cabin to cook, share a meal, and unwind together, and a sauna is available to help you recover after a day in the mountains. All meals are provided, including three dinners, three breakfasts, and four days of trail lunches with daily snacks. The cabin is rustic yet well equipped, so plan to hike in with a sleeping bag and the group’s food. A full kitchen with cooking gear is ready for you, water filtration is handled by the guides, and a 20 percent guide gratuity is already covered. Groups of three to twelve have exclusive use of the cabin for three nights. Transportation to and from the Spruce Creek Trailhead, personal gear such as sleeping bags, backpacks, and boots, and alcoholic beverages are not included. This four-day, three-night adventure is designed for families with children as young as 12 as well as adult groups who want something more immersive than a day trip yet more welcoming and less gear heavy than backpacking or a technical peak climb. The plan begins at the Spruce Creek Trailhead with a 1.6 to 2.2 mile hike to the cabin, time to get settled, explore nearby terrain, prepare dinner together, and enjoy the sauna. The second day features a guided hike such as Crystal Lakes, the Wheeler Trail, or the Spruce Creek Loop, followed by a snack, free time, and a shared dinner. The third day aims for Crystal Peak or another objective at the guide’s discretion, with a packed trail lunch and a final dinner back at the hut. The last day includes breakfast, cabin clean-up, and a hike out.

Build confidence and control for gravity and downhill mountain biking with a weekend-based clinic focused on strong technical foundations. Geared toward intermediate riders aiming to bridge the gap between trail riding and bike park downhill, and toward experienced gravity riders ready to refine fundamentals, this camp serves ages 10 to 15. Coaching covers downhill body positioning and balance, braking and speed management, cornering technique and thoughtful line choice, terrain awareness and trail reading, and growing confidence on steeper, more technical trails. The series takes place at Keystone Mountain Bike Park.

Discover Frisco’s past on a 90-minute guided walk along historic Main Street, led by Museum staff who share favorite stories from more than 140 years of local history. The route sets out from the Schoolhouse Museum, continues through Main Street, and concludes at the historic Lund House at the Frisco Bay Marina. Routes may be adjusted if weather or construction requires. This is a welcoming option for visitors and locals interested in learning about the town and the people who lived here. The tour is recommended for ages 10 and up, while groups with younger participants may enjoy the passport program at the Historic Park. A new commission by Tanner Porter, The Colorado, draws on the river’s story, moving from hushed origins through powerful flows to its sustaining role across the West. Participants learn to fit and use harnesses, helmets, and shoes, move efficiently to climb smoothly and confidently, tie key knots and hitches, belay actively to keep themselves and their partners safe, set up and rappel from the top of a cliff, and practice outdoor ethics and stewardship of public lands. All technical gear is provided, and transportation is included from a designated meeting place to the trailhead. A professional, friendly guide leads the day. Clothing, insurance, and gratuity are not included. The day starts at a Silverthorne headquarters or directly at the climbing area to get equipped and review the plan. After a short approach to a local crag, the guide selects routes that match each person’s ability and goals, whether it is a first climb or a step toward more technical terrain. Expect a mix of fun and challenge, great views, time to rest between climbs, and steady coaching on movement, technique, and efficiency. The focus is simple... climb more, build confidence, and learn the essentials. A minimum of three participants is required for the course to run. Campers ages 5 to 12 can learn the game, improve their skills, and stay active with engaging on-court activities designed for beginners and players looking to get better. The camp runs weekdays and meets at the tennis courts at the Breckenridge Tennis Center.

Set in Summit County, Colorado, this seminar invites chamber musicians to dive into a week of musical exploration, social connections, and outdoor adventure. Pre-college and adult participants, including both amateurs and professionals, collaborate and learn with faculty from the internationally acclaimed Carpe Diem String Quartet alongside guest artists of the Snake River Music Festival. The mountain setting and vibrant local community create an environment that supports creativity and meaningful connection. The program provides coaching, independent rehearsal time, and shared recreational activities. It welcomes adult amateurs and pre-college students ages 13 to 18. Dillon Amphitheater presents Mountain Music Mondays with a free concert featuring The Crane Wives and special guest Brye. This show benefits Breckenridge Outdoor Education Center. Join North Branch Library’s Youth Advisory Council for a monthly club meeting where teens in grades 6 to 12 help shape the library system. Terri Gentry of History Colorado presents a talk tracing the experiences and contributions of Black Americans in Colorado from the 1850s to today. The program highlights homesteaders, cowboys, military personnel, medical and business professionals, and community members, showing how their work helped shape the state. Admission is free. Seating is limited and available on a first come, first served basis. For indoor lectures, pets and outside food are not permitted.

Young riders can take part in a free race series at Copper Mountain that introduces kids to cycling in a safe and encouraging setting. Using balance or pedal bikes, participants navigate a kid-sized course through Center Village tailored to their height and experience, with an emphasis on building confidence, coordination, and a love of the outdoors. Courses are set for Strider-level riding, and children up to 6 years old of any ability are welcome. A limited number of bikes will be available to borrow on a first come basis at the venue. Presented by Copper Village Merchants and Mountain Sprouts Academy, this installment is Race 2 in the Little Riders Rally and features a distance course.

Enjoy an intimate evening of chamber music at Dillon Community Church featuring Brenda Ishikawa on piano, Yoshi Ishikawa on bassoon, Marisa Ishikawa and Sam Weiser on violins, Korine Fujiwara on viola, Shane Werts on oboe, and David Dietz on cello. The program includes Benjamin Britten’s Phantasy Quartet, Op. 2, Bill Douglas’s Partita No. 2, J. S. Bach’s Trio Sonata in E minor, BWV 528, Franz Danzi’s Bassoon Quartet in D minor, Op. 40, No. 2, and Gernot Wolfgang’s Lyrical Intermezzo. Libations, appetizers, and desserts are offered before the music begins, followed by the performances. The concert is free and open to all.

The Gore Range Gravity Alliance invites women to connect outdoors through a welcoming mountain bike ride and trail run that emphasizes inclusion and empowerment. Registration and a signed waiver are required; see Tickets to register. Park and check in at the Salt Lick Trailhead parking lot, then meet in the lot to break into groups. Ambassadors will introduce themselves and the activities will begin promptly, so late arrivals may miss the start. An après social follows to relax and get to know each other off the trail, and those who prefer can attend the social only. For biking, beginners are welcome if they are familiar with their gear and comfortable on their bike. This gathering is not professionally guided and participants ride at their own risk, but it is a no-drop community that does not leave anyone behind. Recommended biking essentials include a helmet, water, basic tools, layers, and snacks or sugar as needed. The run is best suited to those who can maintain a comfortable pace of about 12 minutes per mile for roughly 3 to 5 miles.

Staff can assist with ebooks and eReaders, basic computer navigation, app basics, smartphones and tablets, general internet instruction, research that goes beyond typical search engines, and using the library's electronic resources. They are not able to design or format documents or flyers, repair or restore broken or infected devices, apps, or email accounts, enter sensitive information such as credit card numbers, Social Security numbers, or online banking credentials, provide keyboarding, typing, or proofreading help, or give medical, legal, or business advice. Appointments can be canceled through the email confirmation or by phone.

AirStage Summer Après returns as a weekly outdoor gathering at Ridge Street Arts Square in the Breckenridge Arts District. The series pairs live music with cold drinks and an easygoing, après-style atmosphere. Arrive by hiking, biking, or public transit, lay out a blanket, pick up dinner to go, and relax with performances from a rotating slate of artists throughout the season.
