The 15th annual Newington Rotary golf tournament in support of Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation brings the community together at Indian Hill Country Club to advance the fight against childhood cancer. This year is dedicated to the memory of Charles “Charlie” Lowe, a founding Newington Rotarian who served for 66 years and championed this cause with unwavering dedication, shaped in part by the loss of his younger brother to cancer. The event benefits Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, started in 2000 by Alex Scott when she was four and undergoing treatment for neuroblastoma. Her first lemonade stand sparked a nationwide effort to help doctors care for children like her, and she had raised more than $1 million before her passing in 2004 at the age of eight. Since launching the tournament, the Newington Rotary Club has contributed $325,000 to ALSF over 14 years. A portion of the proceeds also supports the local community through small donations and volunteer initiatives. Past supporters are gratefully acknowledged, and continued sponsorship helps sustain the tournament’s positive impact.
