Explore sculptural fused glass waves under the guidance of instructor Allyson Barker in a one day, three hour class. Designed for those who can already cut glass, this small session is limited to a maximum of four students and costs $95. You will receive step by step instruction, a wave pattern for class use, clear frit, and access to studio tools, and the studio will fire your finished piece. Charlotte County Imagination Library Storybook Soiree

An enchanted evening celebrates literacy while raising funds for the Charlotte County Imagination Library. The night includes a welcome reception with a signature cocktail, hearty hors d’oeuvres and grazing stations, and a decadent dessert bar. Guests can enjoy storybook photo moments, a literary character costume contest, a mystery book wall, a wine pull, silent auction items, raffles, and a Fund-a-Child giving opportunity. Tickets are $75 per person, with only 100 available. Proceeds support the Charlotte County Imagination Library, managed by the Gilstad Literacy Foundation, which provides a free, age-appropriate book every month to local children from birth to age five. More than 2,700 children receive books each month, and every ticket helps put stories into homes, building a love of reading and readiness for kindergarten and beyond. Sponsorships are offered at several levels. Presenting Sponsors at $2,500 receive premier recognition, featured logos on event marketing, recognition during the program, prominent signage, and eight complimentary tickets. Open Water Scuba Diving Course

Learn to scuba dive with a beginner friendly open water course that builds confidence and safety from the start. Experienced instructors cover fundamental skills, buoyancy control, dive planning, and how to respond to emergencies so you can enjoy underwater exploration with peace of mind. The training blends at home eLearning with pool and classroom sessions in a controlled setting, then concludes with open water checkout dives. A boat trip is included, and the final two qualifying dives take place from a dive boat. Use of key rental gear is provided, including a BCD, regulator, dive computer, wetsuit, and weights, and certification is awarded through a widely recognized training organization. The typical flow begins with a day of classroom and pool work, followed by a weekend dedicated to checkout dives. Students only need personal items such as a mask, fins, snorkel, and an SMB, and guidance is available to help choose equipment that fits well. This course is designed for complete beginners, no prior experience is required, only basic swimming ability and a spirit of adventure. Class sizes are kept small to support focused instruction and strong diving habits.

Explore glass fusion in a fish-focused workshop led by Mary Cavanagh at Glass Duchess Studio. Over three hours, students create hanging fish bones, a fish lip sun catcher, and a fish-on-a-plate design, customizing each piece with personal finishes and decorative details. Glass cutting skills are helpful for this class. The session is limited to six students and costs $95 per person. NPC Mel Chancey Harbor Classic

Held at the Charlotte Harbor Event & Conference Center, the NPC Mel Chancey Harbor Classic is a national qualifier that earns competitors eligibility through 2026. The day includes a prejudging session, a mandatory athlete meeting, and evening finals, all under one roof. Free parking is available at the venue and at the host hotel for those staying there, and everything is within walking distance. Tickets are available online in advance and will also be sold at the door for both prejudging and finals, with cash required for at-door purchases. Athletes can register online or in person during check ins at the venue the evening before the event. Credit cards and cash are accepted for registration, and checks are not. All competitors must be NPC members and must have a current 2026 NPC card obtained online. Four Points by Sheraton serves as the host hotel.

Overdose Awareness 5K/1 Mile Remembrance Walk

At South County Regional Park, this 5K and 1-mile remembrance walk brings the community together to honor loved ones and advance overdose awareness, recovery, and family support. Born from heartbreak after the accidental loss of Kelly Pierce Peterson, it has grown into a local lifeline, drawing more than 590 participants in its first two years and raising nearly $50,000 to help prevent overdose, support recovery, and strengthen families in Charlotte County. The remembrance route features Memorial Angels placed along the way, and names are read aloud to keep memories present. Race timing is provided by DURTI RUNNERS. All proceeds stay local to benefit Cathy’s Place of Charlotte County, which offers peer support, treatment and housing navigation, and family services, and Drug-Free Charlotte County, which focuses on prevention education, youth programs, and community outreach. Participants range from competitive runners to families walking in remembrance, all moving with a shared purpose of breaking the silence around overdose.

The gathering highlights meaningful connections and collective impact, with funds raised supporting Women United’s mission through United Way Charlotte County to help local families thrive and create lasting change. Tom Joyce Automotive presents the 4th annual car show at Port Charlotte Town Center Mall, a family friendly celebration featuring food trucks, a live DJ, and raffles. Gasparilla Island Lighthouse Climb Tours!

Experience a history-themed climb to the top of the Gasparilla Island Lighthouse with BIPS. Check in at the lighthouse on the day of the climbs, and consider arriving early since spots can fill quickly. Climbs run about every 20 minutes as space allows and are contingent on weather. No advance RSVP is needed. Admission is $15 for adults and $5 for children under 12 who are at least 48 inches tall. Take in the view from the lantern room after a 134-step ascent. Wander BIPS’ 7.4 acres of nature trails and browse unique merchandise. Proceeds from climb tickets and shop purchases help preserve BIPS’ historic lighthouses for future generations. For safety, climbers must be at least 48 inches tall, babies are not permitted inside, and participants should be able to climb 134 spiral steps. Wear sensible shoes since heels and flip flops are not allowed. Large backpacks and purses cannot be carried inside. Commercial photography and drones are prohibited. Clothing must be dry and swimwear should be covered. Public parking is available at the state park lot on the north side of the lighthouse.

Gasparilla Island Lighthouse Climb Tours!

BIPS hosts a history climb to the top of the Gasparilla Island Lighthouse, with climbs offered every 20 minutes as space allows. Plan to check in at the lighthouse early on the day of the climbs to secure a spot, since sessions can sell out quickly. Admission is $15 for adults and $5 for children under 12 who are at least 48 inches tall, and proceeds from climbs and shop purchases support BIPS’ historic lighthouses for the future. Climbers ascend 134 spiral steps to reach the lantern room and take in the views. Before or after your climb, you can wander 7.4 acres of BIPS nature trails and browse distinctive, one-of-a-kind items in the shop. For safety, participants must be at least 48 inches tall and babies are not permitted inside. Wear sensible climbing shoes since heels and flip flops are not allowed. Large backpacks and purses cannot be carried inside. Commercial photography and drones are not permitted. Clothing must be dry and swimwear needs to be covered. All climbers must be physically able to manage the staircase. Climbs are weather dependent and advance RSVP is not available. Public parking is available at the Florida State Park lot on the north side of the lighthouse.

Pumpkin Festival

The 4th annual Pumpkin Festival at Prana Farms features fresh pumpkins, family activities, and plenty of fall fun. Visitors can explore the Butterfly Exhibit and gardens, enjoy animal encounters with a petting zoo, and let kids play in the Nature Play Zone and bounce houses. The Farm Store and plant nursery are open for browsing, and the Treat Barn offers snacks and sweets. Entertainment includes a Friday night family movie, with hayrides and pony rides available at select times. Admission is $10 per person and parking is free.
