Marking the Garden’s 50th anniversary, this encore exhibition showcases the monumental imagination of French artist Niki de Saint Phalle, bringing together a vibrant array of outdoor and indoor sculptures. A trailblazer among women creating large-scale works, de Saint Phalle is celebrated for her colorful Nanas as well as expressive figures, animals, and fantastical creatures. Featuring 41 pieces, the presentation is believed to be the most extensive display of her work in North America. Most artworks are on loan from the Niki Charitable Art Foundation, complemented by contributions from private collections. Installations span the grounds and appear in the Conservatory, the Orchid Center, and the Gardenhouse Gallery. The scope ranges from the 2,000 pounds Grand Step Totem and the 16.5 foot Large Yelling Man to compact wall reliefs measuring 2 feet by 2 feet.
