75th Anniversary Diamond Dig

Family Savings Credit Union is marking its 75th Anniversary with a traveling Diamond Dig series across Alabama and Georgia, and this stop brings the celebration to Shorter University in Rome, Georgia. A specially built dig trailer filled with sand and soil will be on site, giving registered participants a chance to uncover prizes, including a real diamond necklace valued at nearly $1,000 at each event. On-site registration is available, and the first 30 eligible participants to register will receive a ticket with a scheduled dig slot. Each person may search for one diamond-shaped prize capsule, with a limit of one prize per participant. Prizes may include cash, gift cards, jewelry, Family Savings Credit Union merchandise, and more. Beyond the dig, the event features family-friendly activities such as balloon animals, face painting, a 360 photo booth, jumpy houses, a DJ with music, and food trucks with items available for purchase. She unveils her latest collection, Song of the Saguaro, a desert-centered series that conveys cadence and reverence through sweeping vistas and glowing skies. Attendees can expect insight into the inspiration behind the work, the methods she uses, and what is developing next. Lunch will be available for $15 plus tax. Dellinger Dash 3K and "Lake Lap" for Kids

City of Calhoun Cornhole League

The City of Calhoun Cornhole League offers a seven week season that concludes with a tournament awarding a championship trophy and other prizes. First place teams from each location earn a spot in the State Championship Cornament for a chance at more prizes and the opportunity to have their team name added to The Cup. Teams play one matchup per week in a preset evening slot. The schedule includes six weeks of regular season play followed by one week of playoffs. Each matchup is best two out of three games, and individual games are played to 21 points. Captains select a division during registration. Three skill levels are available, and divisions may be combined at smaller sites if fewer than six teams register in a level. Beginner is ideal for backyard players who inconsistently land bags on the board or in the hole. Intermediate suits players who may sink one or two bags out of four and are steadier at placing bags on the board. Advanced is for competitors who routinely hit the hole, can airmail, and incorporate defensive strategy. All team members receive a league shirt, however any player who has not completed payment by the close of registration will not receive one. Participants are encouraged to review the league rules ahead of time and confirm they are registered in the correct division and location before the season begins.

Jeremy Lipking Workshop

Booth Art Academy presents a three-day portrait painting workshop with artist Jeremy Lipking that focuses on capturing light and presence. Each morning begins with Jeremy painting from a live model, followed by personalized critiques and guidance for every participant. The first day centers on completing an alla prima portrait in a single sitting. The second and third days are devoted to building a second painting with greater development and nuance. By the conclusion, attendees will have created two finished works across the three sessions. Enrollment ranges from 8 to 16 students. Tuition is $1,300 for museum members and $1,375 for non-members.

A three-day immersive class with artist Margaret Dyer focuses on figure work in pastel and oil at Booth Art Academy. Participants will work from a live model while exploring drawing, composition, anatomy, proportion, value, and color, with guidance in traditional pastel and oil techniques. Instruction highlights building form through light and shadow using a clear, step-by-step approach that helps artists work more quickly and with a looser touch. No prior pastel experience is necessary. Some drawing experience can be helpful, but it is not required. Tuition is $475 for museum members and $550 for non-members, and enrollment is limited to 6 to 16 students.

Explore the mysteries of black holes during a Lunch and Learn presented by Tellus Science Museum with Dr. Justin Robinson from Georgia State University. Drawing on real images captured by the Event Horizon Telescope, this talk explains what black holes are, how they form, the technology that made these rare images possible, and how real science compares with portrayals in movies and television. After the presentation, watch a gravity well demonstration that reveals black hole physics in action, then create and decorate a small black hole simulation to take home. 1st Annual Mic Drop Masters

A community comedy showcase and fundraiser takes the stage at the Georgia Highlands College Cartersville Campus Gym, launching the first annual Mic Drop Masters in support of All In Or All Out Ministry. Eight local participants each deliver an original four-minute stand-up set, with guidance from local comedian Big Rich Brock, who also headlines. Food trucks will be on site. Contestants are Steven Schumacher of Cartersville Museum City, Justin Martin of All Star Roofing, Paul Rowell of Kenda Tire & Wheel, McKenna Kauffmann of the Cartersville-Bartow Chamber of Commerce, Brendan Eldom of Shadelife, Chris Bruton of Etowah Counseling, Regina Cox of Keller Williams Realty NW Cartersville, and Kaylie Felices of Christina Jenkins, LLC. Fundraising takes place leading up to the show to benefit AIAO’s work in recovery and faith-based support, empowering people to pursue freedom, restoration, and new beginnings. Teams face off to claim top honors for the best chili and Brunswick stew. Chili and Brunswick stew will be sold, and tasting bracelets let attendees sample every entry and cast a People’s Choice vote. The cook-off also features arts, crafts and retail vendors along with live musical entertainment. Prizes are on the line in both chili and Brunswick stew divisions. Judges Choice awards are $500 for first place, $200 for second, and $100 for third in each division.
