As the eighth bishop of the Diocese of Sioux City, Bishop Keehner brings roots in the Diocese of Youngstown, Ohio, and academic formation in English, Latin American Studies, and Biblical Studies, along with a Master of Divinity and a licentiate in Canon Law. This annual lecture honors Sr. Ruth Agnes Ahlers, OSF (1917-2006), a Briar Cliff professor whose leadership from 1967 to 2000 helped the University and the Sioux City Diocese engage the theological developments of Vatican II. She is remembered for her devotion to the Eucharist and her conviction in the formative power of worship. Continuing each academic year, the series reflects Briar Cliff’s Catholic and Franciscan intellectual heritage and strengthens its commitment to faith, learning, and service.

Transcending Yoga and Prairie River Counseling are partnering to offer a one day workshop at Stone State Park Lodge centered on navigating loss and nurturing resilience. Designed for anyone who has experienced loss in any form, the focus is not on dissecting the deepest layers of grief, but on beginning to reclaim a sense of steadiness in the body, honoring the parts of self touched by loss, and tending the inner strength that is already there. Nature based experiences are combined with somatic practices to invite reflection and reconnection. Through a blend of evidence based and holistic approaches, participants are encouraged to realign with mind, body, and soul while attuning to the surrounding natural systems. Expect a compassionate setting where loss is acknowledged and resilience can take root. The day includes ecotherapy, somatic therapy, sound baths, gentle Yin yoga, creative art making, and gentle movement. Participants begin to cultivate resilience in the midst of loss, return to the present moment, slow their pace, validate and be with emotions, rediscover comfortable movement in the body, and build grounding and stability.

This cribbage tournament is designed for two-person teams. Registration is handled by Janet Mueller. The event features three rounds, and the entire entry pool is awarded as prize money to the top three teams.

Teams of four adults take on the 4th Annual Opportunities Unlimited Irish Road Bowling competition, rolling a small cannonball along a marked route and aiming to finish in the fewest throws. Each team pays $200 and receives a scorecard, chalk, and a bowl at the start, and the bowl must be returned at the end of the course. The starting area near the Hilton Garden Inn parking lot features music, games, food trucks, and a beer garden so teams can relax while they wait for their turn. A youth tackle football tournament returns to Sioux City for 3rd through 8th grade teams. Squads will compete at some of Siouxland’s premier football facilities, with plans to utilize three venues and official site details to be announced. Early registration offers a reduced entry fee of $150 per team, followed by a standard fee of $300 per team after the early window. Discounts are available for programs entering multiple teams. Interest is already strong, with 13 teams registered and more expected. TNT Football Academy is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and every dollar raised from the tournament goes directly back into supporting youth football development in local communities, helping young athletes participate, improve, and grow in the game.

Artists Sue, Lilith, and Raquel will be working from special flash designs created for the occasion. Walk-ins are the only option and service is first come, first served. Flash pieces are priced from $30 to $80. Each person is limited to one tattoo unless a specific sheet allows more. Designs measure about one to two inches and cannot be resized. Shading or a single color is included, and placement is limited to arms and legs, with other areas possibly incurring an additional charge at the artist’s discretion. Submission Challenge brings a submission-only Jiu-Jitsu tournament to One Combat Academy with divisions for kids, teens, and adults. The format is double elimination with both gi and no-gi brackets. Matches follow a modified EBI ruleset across youth, teen, and adult levels, with age and skill-based divisions. If regulation ends without a finish, EBI overtime decides the winner by submission, fastest submission time, or fastest escape time. Victories can also occur by disqualification or forfeit. Divisions are available for men and women starting at age 4, and first-time competitors with less than six months of experience have dedicated novice options, including athletes with backgrounds in wrestling, judo, sambo, or other grappling arts. Professionally crafted medals are awarded for first, second, and third place. Early bird registration is $79 for one division and $99 for two, with absolute divisions at $40. Standard registration is $99 for one division and $129 for two, with absolute divisions at $60.
