Garage Band Open Stage

Harmonize Peoria’s Garage Band Open Stage returns for a community music night hosted by Chasing Hope, a Central Illinois rock quartet that blends varied influences into a modern sound. This free, all-ages event gives first priority on stage to artists under 21 while welcoming everyone to participate or cheer from the audience. The format is simple. The host band opens with a short set, then the stage is available to anyone who signs up. Performers can play solo, jump in with the hosts, or assemble a group with fellow attendees. Those who are brand new or simply curious are invited to try the instruments even if they are not ready to perform. A complete backline and instruments are provided, and personal gear is welcome. An on-site sound engineer supports the mix so performers can focus on playing. The atmosphere is designed to be supportive and low pressure. Seating is plentiful, with chips and soda for sale. Personal chairs and snacks are allowed. No alcohol. Each week brings a different host band and a fresh musical vibe. This program receives project support through Arts Dollars funds from the Illinois Arts Council Agency, ArtsPartners of Central Illinois, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Community Foundation of Central Illinois.

Damaged and defaced books become the raw material in this visual statement about attacks on knowledge and the ideas books carry. Pages are torn into fragments, content is stripped away, and binding threads linger as traces, all serving as stark evidence of censorship and enforced conformity. Created by a Champaign-based artist who teaches engineering and welding at Urbana High School, the work turns the physical book into a record of what is lost when voices are silenced.

Bart Vargas: Mandalas

Bellevue, Nebraska artist and educator Bart Vargas presents sculptures and paintings shaped from locally gathered castoffs such as trash, recyclables, and surplus goods. Discarded materials are reimagined into approachable, playful works that encourage reflection on what communities consume and what they throw away. A Mandala workshop led by Vargas is also part of the program.

Stroll + Sign Story Time

Enjoy a family-friendly morning along the Peoria Riverfront with a 30-minute self-paced walk where strollers, bikes, scooters, and wagons are welcome. After the stroll, little ones can play and take part in a brief sign and sing story time led by Communication Junction. The group meets at Liberty Park, and parking is available in the large lot in front of RC Outfitters and Rhythm Kitchen. If the weather does not cooperate, activities move to the Riverfront Museum, with any updates shared on social media. Argentine Tango Practica

Explore Argentine tango in a welcoming setting at the Contemporary Art Center of Peoria, held in the second floor gallery. This is part of a weekly Sunday practica designed for dancers who have received instruction and want dedicated time to refine their social tango. 17th Annual Golf Classic - Tee It Up for the Troops

The 17th annual Golf Classic benefiting Tee It Up for the Troops, Central Illinois brings the community together at Mt. Hawley Country Club to raise funds for local organizations that support those who serve or have served in the United States Armed Forces. The day includes a complimentary veterans-only golf outing in the morning and a sponsor-focused Golf Classic in the afternoon. Participants from both portions come together for lunch, an opening ceremony for the sponsor event, and an evening dinner that welcomes guests. Strong backing from area businesses is a key part of this effort, reflected in the dedicated sponsor component of the outing. Tee It Up for the Troops began in 2005 with a mission to honor, remember, respect, and support all who have served. Since the Central Illinois chapter launched in 2009, proceeds from its events have benefited veterans, military personnel, and their families at both local and national levels, and more than 3,370 local veterans have enjoyed a therapeutic day on the course along with special recognition. Bremer Jewelry in Peoria hosts an informative meeting focused on the St. Jude Rides motorcycle journey to Memphis, an annual effort that began in 2007 to support St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Attendees can learn about fundraising opportunities, rider requirements, and what to expect during the experience, including a police-escorted departure from Walters Brothers Harley-Davidson, a first-day ride to Dyersburg for a welcome reception and overnight stay, and a campus arrival alongside several hundred motorcycles after linking up with satellite rides from cities such as Lacon, Dyersburg, Des Moines, Kansas City, Chicago, Nashville, Dallas, and Dothan. Following the check presentation, the group gathers for dinner and some participants continue to Beale Street to celebrate another year of fundraising. Over the past eighteen years, the ride has raised more than $11.8 million. Last year more than 230 motorcycles and their passengers generated $1.3 million, with a new goal of reaching $1.5 million. The meeting also highlights how St. Jude advances the understanding, treatment, and defeat of childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases, and how families never receive a bill for treatment, travel, housing, or food so they can focus on caring for their child.

Practice Argentine tango in a relaxed, supportive setting at the Contemporary Art Center of Peoria, held in the second-floor gallery.
