After a long sea voyage from Scotland, pianist Ada McGrath and her young daughter, Flora, are left on a New Zealand beach with all their possessions, including a beloved piano. Silent since childhood, Ada has been sold into marriage to Alisdair Stewart and shows little interest in building a bond with him. Her attention shifts to his acquaintance, George Baines, who maintains friendly ties with the Maori community, and their growing connection sparks intense, life-changing conflicts. The restoration was supervised by Campion and cinematographer Stuart Dryburgh and was created from a scan of the original 35mm negative.

    Unraveled Quilt Store's QUILTATHON

381 Fletcher Ave, Spencer · verified Aug 2
    See details

Unraveled Quilt Store’s Quiltathon is a marathon day of sewing that fuels local giving. Participants collect pledges from friends and family, either by the hour or as a single donation, then set up their machines at tables in the parking lot beneath a large tent and spend the day stitching for a cause. Bring your own sewing gear and projects. Unraveled provides the tables, the tent, and plenty to eat and drink, including lunch, snacks, beverages, and dinner. Sewing continues throughout the day and into the night. Funds raised support Compass Rose Farm Sanctuary, which began as a potbellied pig rescue and now offers lifelong refuge to more than 250 animals such as pigs, horses, donkeys, sheep, goats, chickens, turkeys, and guinea fowl, with an emphasis on quality nutrition, veterinary care, and safe, comfortable living spaces. Support also extends to The Sanctuary at Browning Farms, a 110-acre farm animal rescue in Spencer, Indiana, that welcomes animals in need, provides necessary medical care, and shares education on responsible pet care with rural communities. Friskies dry and wet cat food donations are also appreciated, and the sanctuary goes through about a case each day. There is a $35 participant fee to help cover the tent and meals. The store does not profit from this fundraiser, and all money raised benefits the community. To register, call 812-821-0309, then start gathering pledges. If attending is not possible, sponsoring a quilter or donating cat food are thoughtful ways to contribute.
