    Now in its ninth year, the Indy Runners Charity XC Challenge returns to Brebeuf Jesuit High School for a cross country competition that raises funds for a range of causes. Runners can represent Anchor Charities including Back on My Feet, the Joseph Maley Foundation, and Girls on the Run. Outrun the Sun remains the Permanent Anchor Charity in recognition of Don Keller, and Team Dono is open to anyone wishing to honor his memory by supporting melanoma research. Participants may also form their own teams for any charity they choose and recruit as many teammates as they like. Half of each team’s entry fees go directly to that charity, and the other half is contested on the course using Age Graded Percent scoring that balances age and gender so everyone competes in a single division. This US Chess rated event uses a four round Swiss format for regular ratings. Active US Chess Federation membership and a valid USCF ID are required at registration. All players entered in the first round will be paired and no check-in is needed. Space is limited to 80 competitors. Entry fees are $42 for members and $47 for non-members before the advance deadline, then $52 for members and $57 for non-members afterward. Sections include the Club Championship Open, which is open to Indy Chess members of any rating but requires 1800+ for non-members, plus Upper 1400–1799, Middle 1000–1399, and Lower unrated–999. Published ratings determine placement, with provisional ratings used if otherwise unrated. Players may move up one section if within 100 rating points by making a $20 donation to that section’s first-place prize fund, except that non-members may not move up into the Club Championship. Unrated players may be allowed to play up at the tournament director’s discretion. Prizes are as follows, contingent on a turnout of at least 60 players. Open: $200, $150, $100, plus a $100 bonus for the top Indy Chess member. Upper: $100, $75, $50, plus a $50 bonus for the top Indy Chess member. Middle: $75, $50, $25, plus a $25 bonus for the top Indy Chess member. Lower: $75, $50, $25, plus a $25 bonus for the top Indy Chess member. One half point bye may be requested in advance, with specific restrictions for the final round. Boards, sets, and clocks are provided. The playing room features bright lighting, padded chairs, and wheelchair access. Complimentary coffee and water are available. Drinks may be at the tables and food is not permitted in the playing room. Notation of moves is required. For assistance or accommodations, contact the tournament director in advance. Youth policies apply. Children 12 and under must have a responsible adult on site for the duration of the event or they may be disqualified. Indy Chess does not provide supervision for children under 13. For participants over 13, a responsible adult must complete sign-in and provide a phone number. A parent or guardian may be required to remain on site for any participant under 18 at the organizer’s discretion. Fair play rules are in effect. Personal electronic devices are not allowed in the playing area except for USCF-approved notation devices subject to inspection. Phones must be turned off and kept face down or stored in a bag. On-call personnel should speak with the tournament director. Amenities include a dedicated skittles room with ping pong, billiards, and air hockey, as well as guest Wi‑Fi.
