This fall, art, aviation, and military history enthusiasts come together for a juried showcase at the Grissom Air Museum highlighting original interpretations of warplane nose art. Juniors and seniors from public, private, parochial, and home schools in Miami, Wabash, Fulton, Cass, Howard, and Grant counties are invited to submit a two dimensional piece that designs original nose art inspired by historic examples. Eligible media include acrylic, watercolor, pastels, pen and ink, pencil, and digital artwork. Entries created with AI or copied from existing nose art are not accepted. Artwork must be delivered to the museum with a completed submission form, available on the museum's website, in person during operating hours, or by email request. All submissions will be exhibited to the public at the museum, and a special reception will welcome artists, their supporters, and visitors. A panel of judges will select winners, with recognized pieces staying on view at the museum afterward. Awards will honor the top three juniors, the top three seniors, and a Best in Show. Additional information will be announced, and registration will open ahead of the exhibition.

Managed by ACRES Land Trust, this quiet, tucked-away preserve features a deep sandstone gorge shaped by Ross Run, towering cliffs with mossy rock walls, and a clear stream that spills over small falls into shallow pools. Bright fall color lines the ridges and a lively forest canopy adds to the scene, offering abundant subjects for compositions, from cliff faces and water reflections to elevated overlooks and sweeping views. Notable vantage points include the Gorge Overlook, the Ross Run creek crossing, sandstone outcrops, the low creek basin, and the upper ridge path. Trails are natural surface with a gentle descent into the gorge, spots of exposed roots and rocky footing, and sections of bridges and boardwalk-style path. Parking is in a simple gravel lot that typically fits about 8 to 12 vehicles, and arriving earlier generally makes finding a space easier. Roadside parking is discouraged, and there are no restroom facilities. The entrance is marked by a small ACRES sign and a gravel driveway, leading to a setting that feels secluded, quiet, and fully immersive for a day of painting outdoors.

A Thanksgiving tradition for Huntington County, the Pathfinder Early Learning Center Turkey Trot features a 5K run and a one mile walk. The course begins at Pathfinder’s administrative offices, circles the beautiful Pehkokia Woods, and passes the Izaak Walton League on the return. More than 1,100 participants are expected, along with spectators and fans. Funds raised support the children and programming at the Early Learning Center.
