A free recital presented by Justicia, Inc. and Washburn University highlights Sones de México Ensemble’s Corridos USA 250 project. Titled Corridos of the Semiquincentennial: Voices of Courage and Hope, this musical storytelling program features eight newly created traditional Mexican corridos that pay tribute to eight national heroes. Corridos are long-form ballads and folk narratives with roots in the 1840s, sharing tales of bravery and defiance from a community perspective. This family-friendly presentation includes narration in Spanish and English by Juan Díes alongside members of the ensemble, blending live music, storytelling, projected visuals, and interactive elements. Admission is free and open to the public. Supported by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts | America 250.

Keep the laughter going after TOP CITY Comedy Laughs with a lively karaoke party where friends take the mic and the crowd cheers them on. Enjoy songs and a festive atmosphere at A Star Karaoke Bar in Downtown Topeka. The food court stays open for late night dinner, and there is no cover charge. It offers a welcoming setting for connecting, mingling, and celebrating with other talented creatives in the Court.

The Lawrence Farmers Market brings together Kansas growers and makers from within 50 miles, offering seasonal produce, flowers, baked goods, meats, coffee, handmade goods, and other artisan products. Shoppers can expect a lively community atmosphere with new discoveries each week in Downtown Lawrence. Sunrise Project’s 12th Annual Pie Auction Fundraiser brings the community together at Lyons Park with a free meal, refreshing beverages from Lemonet Boujee Lemonade, and music by DJ Proof. Guests can enjoy slices of pie and take part in a live pie auction, browse a silent auction, and get creative at a tie dye station. Participants may bring their own garment to dye or purchase a T-shirt at the event for $5. Additional activities round out the experience. Current supporters include Blue Collar Press at the Strawberry Rhubarb level, Tom Harper at the Apple Pie level, Durham School Services at the Apple Pie level, and Sarah Anderson at the Strawberry Rhubarb level. Volunteers will help A Million Thanks get thousands of handwritten letters ready to send to deployed service members overseas. Activities include opening envelopes, sorting the mail, and screening messages to ensure each note is prepared for delivery to someone far from home. Participation is limited to 12 volunteers.
