Art in the Park is a juried fine art and fine craft event set beneath the trees of South Park on the south end of downtown Lawrence, Kansas. Across two days, 125 artist booths line the park, 10 bands perform at the gazebo, and food trucks serve a wide variety of sweet and savory choices. A local tradition since 1964, it is the Lawrence Art Guild’s premier fundraising event and has been voted Best Event five times since 2019 in the Best of Lawrence contest. A Phoenix Gallery sponsored Art in the Park Preview Show offers a sneak peek of the artwork. Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing takes the stage in a lively production that explores identity, love, and communication, anchored by the quick-witted exchanges between Beatrice and Benedick. Actors From The London Stage, founded in 1975 at UC Santa Barbara by Homer 'Murph' Swander together with Sir Patrick Stewart, brings the play to life with five performers who take on multiple roles and make inventive use of minimal props. The company tours colleges across the United States twice each year and also leads classes and workshops that highlight the energy of Shakespeare’s text in performance.
