Science on Tap features Dr. Ana Rita C. Morais, Deputy Director of the Wonderful Institute for Sustainable Engineering and an assistant professor in the School of Engineering, presenting a free public talk and Q&A in the beer hall at Free State Brewing Company. The program explores polyethylene, a widely used plastic in the United States, and why so little of it is recycled due to inefficient mechanical methods. Dr. Morais will discuss a new strategy that uses pressurized carbon dioxide to help turn PE waste into valuable products, showing how CO2 could make the chemical processing of PE and potentially other plastics more efficient, more selective, and more sustainable. Seating is limited, so early arrival is recommended. Individuals with disabilities are encouraged to attend this University of Kansas sponsored event. Warm Hugs Quilting

A community-driven quilting group gathers weekly to stitch quilts that are given to people facing crisis or moving into long-term housing in the area. Every quilt is crafted from donated materials and delivered by volunteers from the group. No quilting experience is required, and everyone is welcome to learn, help, or simply enjoy conversation and camaraderie.

Themes span Mexico, Argentina, Algeria, Ecuador, Curacao, Tunisia, the Netherlands, Austria, and conclude with the USA. Peek-a-Book Baby/Toddler Storytime

At the Eudora Community Library, Singing Sarah of Sunflower Music leads a storytime for babies and toddlers. From Synapses to Circuits: Exploring Brain-Inspired Computing

Explore neuromorphic, or brain-inspired, computing at a drop-in program featuring hands-on stations led by high school and undergraduate students. Try building simple circuits, challenge your memory with brain-themed activities, and experiment with models of memristor materials. Bring your toughest questions about next generation computers for scientists from the University of Kansas Department of Physics and Astronomy. Activities are designed for ages 7 and older. This grant-supported program is connected to The FuSe2 project with support from the National Science Foundation. Lawrence Disability Pride is hosting its fourth annual ADA celebration at the Robert J. Dole Institute of Politics at the University of Kansas. The event brings the community together to honor the legacy of the Americans with Disabilities Act while highlighting disability culture, advocacy, accessibility, and inclusion throughout Lawrence and beyond. Eudora Convention & Visitors Bureau is bringing the Main Street Market back to Eudora for 2026, sponsored by Mid America Bank. Set at the Eudora KS Parks and Recreation Department, the market features vendor booths, food trucks, and live music. While shopping, visitors can also explore the businesses along Main Street. Vendors interested in participating should register only through the official website. The 3rd Annual Duck Derby

Eudora Parks and Recreation Foundation will put on the 2026 Great Duck Race in Eudora, Kansas, a community event that raises funds for access to local parks and recreation. Proceeds from every duck adoption support the Kurt Von Achen Scholarship Fund, which helps eligible residents participate in programs and use facilities. Adoptions are available at multiple levels: 1 duck for $5, 6 for $25, 13 for $50, or 27 for $100. Prizes are set at $1,000 for first place, $250 for second, and $100 for third. The final finisher earns the Lucky Duck prize, a $200 credit at the Eudora Parks and Recreation Department. Duck adoptions can be made at Main Street Market during the summer or at the Parks and Recreation Department front desk, with additional locations to be announced. The exact date will be shared once scheduling is finalized, with plans to take place before the last dive in movie of the season. Baker University Wetlands & Discovery Center

Baker Wetlands Field Trip

The outing begins in the southwest parking lot and follows the River Trail to the east. If bird activity is strong, the route continues north to the center road and then turns back to the west. Birds commonly seen include Indigo Buntings, Common Yellowthroats, and Dickcissels. Participants will also watch for Rose-breasted Grosbeaks, Pileated Woodpeckers, Willow Flycatchers, and Eastern Wood-Pewees, with both Baltimore and Orchard Orioles likely in the area. Additional possibilities include Yellow-breasted Chat, Blue Grosbeak, and Bell’s Vireo. The pace and path adjust to the sightings to make the most of the outing.

Clear out unused gadgets at the 2026 Electronics Recycling Event, hosted by the City of Lawrence at the Douglas County Fairgrounds. This free opportunity is open to residents of Douglas County and is sponsored by Teknix Solutions. A wide range of items that plug in or use electricity can be brought, including computers, laptops, speakers, keyboards, mice, servers, printers, microwaves, TVs, gaming systems, light fixtures, stereos, radios, phones, audio and visual equipment, lab equipment, cables, battery backup systems, monitors and other small appliances. Some TVs and monitors require a fee, with CRT televisions and monitors and projection sets costing $40 each, and LCD TVs and monitors costing $10 each. Teknix Solutions accepts cash, PayPal or Venmo for these fees, and credit or debit cards are not accepted. Recycling here offers a responsible way to handle old electronics, protect personal data and keep e-waste out of the landfill. EYFCA Football Jamboree & Snack Drive

Kick off the season with a home football jamboree at the Eudora High School stadium. The event is organized into two sessions, with the first featuring 2nd and 3rd grades along with 4th grade, and the second featuring 5th and 6th grades. A snack drive will benefit the EMS Cardinal Market, with a flyer outlining the most needed items for donation in support of Eudora students. Concessions will be available for purchase.

First Shots for Kids

This beginner-friendly firearms class is intended for youth ages 8 to 16. Participants learn essential safety practices, basic care and operation of a firearm, and core shooting fundamentals, followed by a supervised live fire session at the range. Each young attendee must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Please plan to supply 50 rounds of ammunition by bringing your own or purchasing them. A limited number of .22 caliber handguns will be available to use. The session lasts two hours and the fee is $50 for one student paired with a parent or guardian.

Mackinac Island trip

A weeklong getaway with Eudora Parks and Recreation and Diamond Tours showcases the timeless charm of Northern Michigan, with Mackinac Island as the centerpiece. Travel by motorcoach and experience Great Lakes highlights including a boat tour of the Soo Locks, time in historic Mackinaw City, a visit to a frontier village from the 1700s, and unhurried walks through waterfront towns known for shopping and scenic views. On Mackinac Island, where automobiles give way to horse-drawn carriages, take in Arch Rock and lilac-lined paths, then enjoy free time to explore at your own pace. The itinerary also includes guided touring, lighthouse visits, a stop at a casino, and opportunities to relax with friends. This package covers seven days and six nights. The price is $999 per person based on double occupancy, with a single supplement of $269, and a $75 deposit is due at sign-up. Capacity is limited.

Harvesters delivers perishable food to a church campus, where volunteers sort the items and load them into cars as they line up in the parking lot. Food is distributed on a first come, first served basis.

Summer Sizzle Series Race 3

Part of the 2026 Summer Sizzle Series organized by NBHA KS01 together with 2M Equine, this stop is held at the Douglas County Fairgrounds. The Douglas County format begins with exhibitions, moves into a block of up to 25 competition runs, includes a short open arena break, then continues with After Dinner Exhibitions and finishes with the remaining runs. A $10 processing fee applies to all entries except Pee Wees, and exhibitions are $5. The Open 4D is $30 with half second, half second and one second splits. Youth 3D is $20 with one second splits, and Junior Horse 2D is $20 with one second splits. Rising Stars is $15 for any age rider who is not yet ready for youth or open classes. Pee Wee is $7 for ages 8 and under.
