Set in Kill Creek Park, this adventure race explores hundreds of acres of natural scenery, a network of hiking and biking trails, and preserved prairie grasslands. The event takes place rain or shine, so participants should be ready for any weather. Two race formats are available. The 2-hour all-foot option welcomes individuals and teams. Participants trek to a full set of checkpoints and face a few additional challenges. It is geared toward newcomers, yet the course can include brushy sections, wooded terrain, and water, with about 6 to 8 miles on a mix of pavement and off-trail ground. The 6-hour race combines trekking, biking on single track and paved trails, and paddling on the lake. Pre-plotted topographic maps are provided at check-in. Plan for more than 20 miles of biking, about 10 miles of hiking, and 1 to 2 miles of paddling. Certain transition checkpoints are mandatory, while most others are optional, allowing teams to choose their route and strategy. Solo racers are encouraged to bring a kayak, and teams of two, three, or four are provided canoes. Both options are self-supported. Participants are responsible for their own food, water, first aid, and gear. Maps are distributed at check-in. Travel rules are limited and teams select their own routes between checkpoints. Williams, this course focuses on rapid, effective response to violent threats by combining anatomy‑based aiming, close‑range precision shooting, and a resilient survival mindset. Topics include recognizing performance changes under stress, immediate self‑aid after sustaining a gunshot wound, a three‑dimensional approach to defensive shooting with attention to critical cardiovascular structures, capabilities and limits of small handguns, lessons drawn from real‑world incidents and historic gunfights, post‑incident considerations, and how common defensive handgun calibers perform. Two hands‑on live‑fire blocks use realistic training props and structured drills to put concepts into practice, including a 150‑round segment focused on 3‑D targeting and a 200‑round segment emphasizing street‑relevant skills and validation of three‑dimensional visualization. Students should bring their preferred carry pistol, noting that all SIG Sauer P320 variants, including M17 and M18 models, are not permitted. A safe belt holster that supports one‑handed reholstering is required, and Serpa‑style, shoulder, and ankle holsters are not allowed. Also bring a spare magazine carrier, three magazines, eye and ear protection, rugged clothing suitable for indoor or outdoor use, a sturdy gun belt, durable shoes or boots, and an optional cover garment for either open or concealed carry. Because about half of the course occurs in the classroom and covers detailed material, plan on taking notes. Pack lunch, drinks, snacks, and sunscreen as needed. Ammunition requirement is 350 rounds. A daily range fee of $25 applies to non‑members of the host range and is paid directly to the range. Tuition is a final sale, and refunds are not offered for cancellations or no‑shows. This monthly session from SENT Inc. convenes community leaders, funders, nonprofit partners, and public sector representatives for focused conversation, learning, and collaborative problem-solving. It welcomes a small cohort to SENT’s headquarters at Avondale East for an inside look at ongoing work in the Hi-Crest neighborhood. Participants connect with the people, programs, and places at the heart of SENT’s mission, explore alignment with current initiatives, and consider pathways for partnership that translate vision into community impact. During the experience, guests take a guided tour of the Family Resource Center, a coordinated care hub that supports families facing some of the highest needs in Kansas. Through dialogue and guided engagement, attendees gain a fuller picture of SENT’s wraparound, place-based strategy, including efforts that advance housing stability and neighborhood renewal, expand economic opportunity and workforce pathways, support mental health and wellness, reduce medical disparities, improve food security, and provide educational support for both children and adults. Designed to foster connection and spark collaboration, the format emphasizes relationship-driven approaches that strengthen neighborhoods and support families across Hi-Crest. Attendance is limited to 10 participants and an RSVP is required.

Prices include $2 for hardcovers and large paperbacks, two for $1 on small paperbacks, $2 each for DVDs, CDs, audiobooks, and vinyl albums, four for $1 on children’s titles, and 45 rpm records at 50 cents each or three for $1. A brand new autocross series brings a two day event to Heartland Motorsports Park, moving the action from a typical parking lot to the road course. The planned layout starts near Alpha at the end of the front straight and continues through around Turn 7, creating a high speed autocross on full circuit pavement. Logistics and the final course design are still being finalized, with additional details to come. Structured as a series rather than a single regional round, classing and rules are expected to closely follow the Midiv Solo Series format. Season trophies are planned and will be awarded to SCCA members at the end of the season.

Scarecrow Spectacular Barrel Race brings a full slate of exhibitions and jackpots to Douglas County Fairgrounds, with $250 added and BBR pending. It is the last chance qualifier for the Keep It Simple Series Finals. The program features pole exhibitions followed by a poles jackpot. Barrel exhibitions lead into up to 30 runs in a combined draw for Pee Wee, Rising Stars, Open, Youth, and Junior Horse. After the final run of the first session, Race Style Exhibitions are available with barrels on lasers and a drag after every five runs, and the schedule continues with more barrel exhibitions followed by the remaining jackpot runs. A $10 per day processing fee applies. Exhibitions are $5. Race Style Exhibitions are $7 each with no payout. Class fees include $30 for Open 4D with 80 percent payback, $20 for Youth 3D, and $20 for Junior Horse 2/3D for horses 8 and under with one second splits and 2D if there are 10 or fewer entries. Pee Wee is $7 for riders 8 and under, and Rising Stars is $15 for riders of any age who are not fast enough to place in any other class. Poles offer $20 for Open 2/3D Poles with 1.5 second splits and 2D if there are 10 or fewer entries, $15 for Youth 2D Poles with a two second split, $12 for Rising Star Poles, and $7 for Pee Wee Poles.

This annual fundraiser for the East Topeka Senior Center features a friendly competition among Topeka seniors to raise the most through ads and ticket sales, with the top fundraisers crowned King and Queen. The event includes dinner and music, along with a silent auction and raffles. Tickets are $25.

An awards presentation is planned, followed by an Open 4D race with $100 added, BBR status pending, and no qualification required. Entry details include a $10 processing fee and $5 for exhibitions. Class fees are $40 for the Finals 4D with an 80 percent payback and the option for times to carry over to the Open 4D, $20 for Youth 3D, $7 for Pee Wee for riders 8 and under, and $15 for Rising Stars for any rider not yet fast enough to place in another class. Junior Horse 2/3D is $20 for horses 8 and under, using 2D with 10 or fewer entries and one second splits. The Open 4D is $30 with $100 added and does not require qualification.

A Harvesters truck brings perishable groceries to the church campus, where volunteers sort the items and load them into vehicles as they move through the parking lot line. This distribution is open to anyone in need. Participants will be asked to provide their name, zip code, and a breakdown of household members by children, adults, and seniors. Food is available on a first come, first served basis.

Failure brings The Rising Skyline Tour to The Bottleneck with special guest Quannnic. This all-ages show offers multiple ticket options, including $35 in advance, $50 on the day of the show, and a $235 VIP option.

Bark-o-Lantern Halloween Bingo brings pet lovers together at County Road Brewing for a festive mix of games and tail-wagging fun. Enjoy five rounds of bingo, prizes for both humans and dogs, and treats made with canine companions in mind. All ages are welcome. Registration is required and space is limited. Dogs should be friendly, kept on a leash, and current on vaccinations. You do not need to bring a dog to take part, and it is a chance to meet plenty of four-legged friends.

Participants can connect with other parents and talk with experts in a relaxed setting at the Kansas Children’s Discovery Center in Gage Park while the museum is closed to the public. The program is open to parents with a child under 12 months, and attendance is limited to babies and their caregivers. No advance registration is required.
