Hosparus Health Barren River is hosting a free Patient and Family Support Volunteer training designed for people who want to offer companionship, support, and a caring presence to patients and families. Volunteers typically serve in the county closest to where they live, including Warren, Allen, Simpson, Metcalfe, Monroe, and Edmonson. Training highlights ways to provide companionship and emotional support, offer respite visits for caregivers, deliver care blankets, and serve veterans through dedicated volunteer support. A minimum commitment of two hours each month is requested. Registration is required for all sessions, and documentation of COVID-19 vaccination is required before beginning service. If scheduled dates are not a fit, in-person training and orientation can be arranged. BikeWalkBG hosts a casual 30-minute walk in downtown Bowling Green, starting by the fountain in Fountain Square Park. Open to all, participants take a relaxed half-hour stroll together.

Scotty’s Pound the Pavement is a free running event for kids at Keriakes Park, featuring three distances tailored to different age groups. Children 6 and under can take on a half-kilometer course, ages 11 and under can run 2K, and ages 14 and under can race 3K. Each participant receives a medal, a free dry-fit shirt, and a goody bag. Runner check-in takes place before the races, and awards are presented after each one. Details about advance packet pickup will be shared when available.

Presented with Med Center Health, this free class focuses on child passenger safety. Learn why rear-facing travel matters, the differences between infant and convertible seats, and how to secure a child correctly. The class shares installation tips using a seat belt or lower anchors, reviews how to check expiration dates and recalls, and highlights current safety guidelines. It also explains when to transition to the next stage seat.

This community event at CenterPointe Church celebrates the upcoming school year and supports families. Saturday offers inflatables, water slides, haircuts and braids, face painting, Rita’s, and food, all provided at no cost. Sunday features services welcoming to all ages and a distribution of school supplies to help students start the year prepared.

At Dishman McGinnis Elementary School Gym, the 7th annual back to school block party welcomes youth ages 18 and under for a free community celebration. The event features free school supplies and backpacks for kids, one per child while supplies last, with over 200 backpacks available. Children must be present to receive these items, which are offered on a first come, first served basis. Free raffle prize giveaways run throughout the event alongside booths from vendors, community agencies and nonprofit organizations. Motivational speakers include City Commissioner Carlos Bailey, City Commissioner Dana Beasley Brown, Patti Minter, Cierra Waller, Gambina Flemister and others. Resources available include wellness checkups, Medicaid assistance and dental care. Entertainment includes live DJ sets by DJ REEK and Jay as well as performances by local artists. There will be games and activities, plus Knock-Out and 3-Point contests. Complimentary hot dogs and water are available for everyone, and kids can enjoy free ice cream on a first come, first served basis. The gathering creates a safe space that promotes peace, love, diversity and unity for youth and the community. Attendees are asked to be safe, be respectful and follow announcements and instructions.

The 4yoga book club gathers at the studio for its quarterly meeting to discuss The Choice: Embrace the Possible, a memoir from Dr. Edith Eva Eger. The conversation welcomes anyone with an interest in the topic, whether or not they practice yoga. Participation is free and newcomers are encouraged. Copies can be borrowed through the Warren County Public Library, which offers both a print version and an ebook.

Enjoy a free weekly community bike ride aimed at seniors, part of the BikeWalkBG program. Rides are open to the public, and participants should complete registration on site before the group rolls out. E-bikes are welcome, and the meet-up starts in the evening before the ride departs.
