This weekend in Lake Charles, LA

Panorama Music House hosts a community Cajun jam led by Travis Benoit. There is no cover charge. Musicians are welcome to bring their instruments and sit in, while music lovers can enjoy traditional tunes and spontaneous collaborations. The atmosphere is relaxed with no stage pressure, celebrating Cajun music in a friendly setting. Food and a full bar are available, and everyone is welcome.

Stop by for a self-led “Pop In & Paint” experience where you can choose an art piece and paint at your own pace during the studio’s open hours. Materials and instructions are provided, and no prior painting experience is needed. The pop-in window runs from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM, and your project must be finished by 5:00 PM. Refreshments and light snacks are welcome. Candles (if you choose to make one) take about 2 hours to set, and you may need to pick them up later. Bring your own ice, and note that you can’t bring alcohol and there are no items sold on site.

This back to school shoe giveaway at Shoe Station helps kids in the community start the new school year with confidence. Complimentary shoes are available for children who register in advance, and families can connect with law enforcement officers in a welcoming, family friendly setting. Registration is required for participating children, and additional details are available by email. A single new pair of shoes can make a meaningful difference.

This session marks the final workshop in the 2025 Craft & Create series, led by Christy Blalock. Participants will use cardboard and wire to design, sculpt, and paint a freestanding, eye-catching bird. The workshop will be held at Historic City Hall. Admission is $25 per person, open to ages 16 and up, with space for 20 participants.

Bring the whole family for a guided, all-ages painting class where you’ll create your own version of Despicable Starry Night. The session is set up for a 16x20 canvas, and you’ll get the basic supplies like plates, towels, cups, and utensils. You’ll just need to bring your own food and drinks, and make sure to bring your own ice.

Join a hands-on Tech Help Hour where you can build confidence with technology at your own pace. Computers will be available for practicing basic computer and internet skills, and staff will be there to offer general guidance on using personal devices like e-readers, tablets, or iPads. Registration is required.

Sundown at the Stockyard at West Cal Arena & Event Center features food, shopping, a DJ, and dancing. This summer gathering welcomes couples and groups of friends for a lively, social experience. Admission is $5 per person.

The cage returns to Lake Charles as Ragin Fighting Championship brings Ragin FC 6 to the Lake Charles Event Center. Expect a full slate of live combat sports, including professional and amateur mixed martial arts, high energy kickboxing, and matchups that spotlight Louisiana’s rising and established talent. From the opening bell to the last bout, the atmosphere will be all-out action, making this one of the standout fight nights in Southwest Louisiana. Based in Austin, she has appeared on Netflix, MTV, Comedy Central, Impractical Jokers, and The Joe Rogan Experience, and she is a favorite on the long-running live show Kill Tony. Her writing credits include Impractical Jokers and The Roast of Tom Brady. On the podcast front, she co-hosts This Bitch with Sara Weinshenk and also leads her solo series, The Kim Congdon Takeover, where she blends candid stories with pop culture. Tickets are offered as general admission for $25, with VIP seating in the first two rows at $30.
