Seva Venet Duo: New Orleans Banjo, Stories and Songs

This program features the Seva Venet Duo with banjo, stories, and songs at the French Quarter Visitor Center. Seva Venet is a traditional banjoist and guitarist whose jazz approach carries the spirit of Django Reinhardt and Danny Barker. Raised in Los Angeles, he learned his craft from a musical family, then spent the 1990s performing and teaching in Southern California before relocating to New Orleans, where he played with Tuba Fats, Shannon Powell, and Greg Stafford at second lines, festivals, and clubs. He later joined the Treme Brass Band with Benny Jones and Uncle Lionel Batiste, and also performed with Lionel Ferbos’s Louisiana Shakers and the Palm Court Jazz Band. Today he appears with his Storyville String Band, with Dr. Michael White’s ensembles, with Greg Stafford’s Jazz Hounds, and alongside collaborators such as Lars Edegran and Clive Wilson. His recordings spotlight New Orleans string bands and the banjo tradition. Admission is free and open to all, and seating is limited on a first come, first served basis.
