Voodoo, Vampires and Delicious BITES! Food Tour

Set in the heart of the French Quarter in New Orleans, this guided food and folklore experience explores vampire legends and voodoo traditions alongside tastings of local cuisine. Hear accounts of Marie Laveau and Papa Legba, learn about gris-gris and spells, and follow the story of the Casket Girls tied to the historic Ursuline Convent. Stops include an authentic voodoo museum and shop and the old Pharmacy, where tales of bloodletting and leeches come to life. See a beautiful courtyard at a notable French Quarter restaurant while hearing about ghostly encounters linked to the adjacent Petit Theatre. Between stories, enjoy three dishes at local restaurants. Options may include a cup of Crawfish Etouffee or Jambalaya, Duck and Andouille Gumbo at an upscale spot, and a warm baked Brie at The Vampire's Apothecary, where vampire themed decor sets the scene. A dark chocolate bat offers a sweet bite. Dishes may vary. Adult beverages are available for purchase at every stop. A cocktail add on is available. It features the color changing Alchemists' Elixir at The Vampire's Apothecary, followed by entry to a private, password only speakeasy for a choice of an Absinthe cocktail or a themed blood bag.

Matt Rhody and Russell Welch

At the French Quarter Visitor Center, a program features jazz violinist and mandolinist Matt Rhody with guitarist, composer, and producer Russell Welch. Rhody has appeared with the New Orleans Jazz Vipers and the NOLA String Kings alongside John Rankin and Don Vappie, and he teaches jazz violin at the University of New Orleans. New Orleans has a long string band lineage, especially in its early years when string instruments were central and the violin often led the melody. Welch is known for Gypsy jazz in the Django Reinhardt tradition. He leads the Russell Welch Hot Quartet and Trio and performs with local traditional jazz groups including the Jumbo Shrimp Jazz Band, The Hot Club of New Orleans, The Champagniacs, Meschiya Lake and the Little Big Horns, and Meschiya and the Machetes. Admission is free and open to the public, and seating is limited on a first come, first served basis.
