Voodoo, Vampires and Delicious BITES! Food Tour

Set out on a guided stroll through the French Quarter that blends local flavors with the legends of vampires and voodoo. Hear stories of New Orleans’ nocturnal lore while tasting three dishes at atmospheric restaurants, including a cup of duck and andouille gumbo at a noted French Quarter spot with a beautiful courtyard. Savor a baked brie at Vampire’s Apothecary and a whimsical dark chocolate bat, and enjoy the option of crawfish etouffee or jambalaya, with dishes subject to change. Along the way, learn about Marie Laveau and Papa Legba, explore the meaning of gris-gris and voodoo spells, and visit an authentic voodoo shop and museum. Stop by the historic Ursuline Convent to hear the tale of the Casket Girls, listen to accounts from the old Pharmacy where bloodletting and leeches were once used, and hear about ghostly encounters near the Petit Theatre. Admire the vampire-themed decor during a tour of The Apothecary, where gifts, books, and tarot readings are available. A cocktail add-on is available. Sip the Alchemists’ Elixir at The Vampire’s Apothecary, a color-changing drink prepared tableside, then head to a private, password-only speakeasy for a second choice of either an absinthe cocktail or a playful blood bag. Adult beverages are available for purchase at each restaurant, and the base experience includes the guided tour, the French Quarter highlights, and three featured dishes.

Locals Only

Locals Only returns to Gasa Gasa with a night centered on the artists who fuel the city year round, even when touring acts crowd the clubs. The focus is on local support and a sound that feels homegrown and straight from the source. Very Cherry delivers an explosive duo set, pairing Simon Lott’s high-energy percussion with David Polk on live saxophone, classical piano, and electric guitar, all layered over fully original, textural EDM productions. Drawing on two decades of collaboration, they sidestep the usual lanes to craft a future-facing blend of rave, jazz, and symphonic ideas that keeps the human touch front and center. Phantom Volumes, a New Orleans trio led by keyboardist and songwriter Adam Kelly with Dennis Aoun on drums and Tyler Self on bass, brings what they call literature rock, mixing gothic storytelling, supernatural themes, and commanding musicianship into a cinematic experience with a dark edge. New Thousand adds a violin-driven set shaped by years of street performances on Bourbon and Frenchmen, counting hundreds of nights that ranged from dodging flying drinks and police to surviving the occasional stink bomb. From gear once caught up in a Canal Street scuffle to shows at Burning Man and across Europe, the energy and passion remain constant. Admission is $20, and entry is for ages 18 and up.

Wil Blades

At Café Istanbul, Hammond B-3 organist Wil Blades joins forces with Donald Harrison Jr. on saxophone, Otis McDonald on drums, and percussionist Bill Summers for a set steeped in improvisation and groove. Voodoo, Vampires and Delicious Bites Food Tour

Explore the French Quarter through the lens of New Orleans vampire lore and Voodoo traditions while tasting a series of local specialties. This guided experience blends storytelling with food, weaving tales of Marie Laveau and Papa Legba, the power of gris-gris and spells, and the legend of the Casket Girls at the historic Ursuline Convent. Along the way, hear chilling anecdotes tied to the old Pharmacy, where bloodletting and leeches once played a role in healing, and learn about ghostly happenings connected to the Petit Theatre beside a beautiful courtyard restaurant. Between stories, enjoy three dishes at atmospheric eateries, which may include a cup of crawfish étouffée or jambalaya, a serving of duck and andouille gumbo at an upscale French Quarter spot, and a warm baked brie at Vampire's Apothecary. A dark chocolate treat shaped like a vampire bat adds a sweet twist to the journey. At Vampire's Apothecary, take in the dramatic vampire-themed decor and browse gifts, books, and tarot readings. An authentic Voodoo shop and museum visit is part of the route as well. An optional cocktail add-on features two distinctive pours. Sip the Alchemists' Elixir at The Vampire's Apothecary, a color-changing concoction prepared with a special addition, then step into a secret, password-only speakeasy for a choice of an absinthe cocktail or a playful blood bag. BOOK LAUNCH - GO HELP YOURSELF

At Octavia Books in Uptown New Orleans, this launch celebrates Go Help Yourself, the debut novel by 2024 Publishing Lab Prize winner Daniel Pope, published by the University of New Orleans Press in 2026. The program features a conversation with Ben Fluet and readings from the book. The novel follows Corbin Moore, a man in his twenties who has set aside writing while working at a struggling spiritualist bookstore in Seattle and relying on cannabis, comfort food, and constant news watching. His routine shifts when his forceful mother, Geraldine, a well known self help figure, returns seeking a subject for her methods. Alongside deep seated insecurities and body image concerns, the chance to reconnect with his ex Beth, and a relentless, unsettling flock of crows, Corbin faces the question of what help he needs and where it might be found. Early acclaim includes recognition from Kirstin Chen for its sharp, clear eyed coming of age insight and from Alexandra Kleeman for its lively depiction of modern contradictions and its generous heart. Pope, a Seattle born writer and musician, has appeared in Narrative Magazine, Bellevue Literary Review, and Gulf Coast Journal, and he is a doctoral candidate at the University of Manchester’s Centre for New Writing in the UK.

Joe Jackson + Band - Hope and Fury Tour 2026

Joe Jackson appears with his band at Joy Theater as part of his Hope and Fury tour. He was born in Burton-on-Trent and raised in the south coast port of Portsmouth, where he played his first paid pub gig at 16 next to a glue factory, took on more bar dates entertaining boisterous sailors, and even accompanied a bouzouki player in a Greek restaurant. At 18 he earned a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music in London to study composition, piano, and percussion. By 1978 he was in London with a group featuring Graham Maby, Dave Houghton, and Gary Sanford, shopping a demo that became Look Sharp. American producer David Kershenbaum signed him to A&M Records, the album was re-recorded that August, the band began steady performances, and Look Sharp arrived in January 1979. It was followed within a year by I’m The Man, then by Beat Crazy in 1980 with a darker, reggae-tinged approach. After Houghton left at the end of 1980, the band was dissolved and Jackson moved in new directions, a period he recounts in his book A Cure for Gravity. The venue does not accept cash.

French Quarter Museum Heritage Night

French Quarter Museum Heritage Night invites visitors to experience a no-cost evening of museums, memory, and American stories in honor of the nation’s 250th anniversary. Across the French Quarter, member institutions of the French Quarter Museum Association offer free entry and special programs that reflect on 250 years of change and innovation while spotlighting the many ways New Orleans and its people have influenced the country’s progress. At the New Orleans Pharmacy Museum, housed in the former home of Louis Dufilho, Jr., recognized as America’s first licensed pharmacist, exhibits trace the development of pharmacy and medicine since Louisiana adopted medical licensure in 1816. The museum highlights how early licensing emerged from both a need for regulation and the exchange of knowledge among cultures, including enslaved, Indigenous, and free communities whose contributions were often overlooked. A new exhibition takes a closer look at what it means to be considered licensed and who has historically been left out of that definition. The evening at the Pharmacy Museum features refreshments in the historic courtyard paired with time to explore the new exhibit. Later, docents Owen Ever and Annika Bell lead short, repeating tours that illuminate the building’s history, Dufilho’s legacy, the rise of medical licensure in 19th century New Orleans, and the barriers created for exploited communities by prevailing standards of adequacy for licensure. Tours recur frequently and last about 15 minutes.
