Harvard Book Store and the Cambridge Public Library present an author talk with Richard Russo about his new novel, “Under the Falls”. Russo, a Pulitzer Prize winner for “Empire Falls” and the author of ten novels, will explore a story set in a small town where a crime pulls long-buried secrets into the open and tests the bonds among lifelong friends. The book follows Tyler Sinclair, who left Stone Mountain at eighteen and returns years later as the frontman of a successful band that shares the town’s name, coming back for a one-night benefit to support his childhood friend Doc, who lost the use of his legs after an accident as a kid. The homecoming stirs memories of a difficult family life and friendships left behind, and tensions come to a head at the concert. Tyler reconnects with Curt, his former best friend now serving as police chief, Deb, a standout officer new to the area, and Freddi, Curt’s wife and Tyler’s former partner. Decisions made that night trigger a tragedy and reveal how easily right and wrong can blur within a close-knit rural community. Attendees can RSVP at no cost or choose a book-included ticket that sets aside a copy of “Under the Falls” for pickup at the event. A signing will follow the presentation. Tricky brings his singular sound to The Sinclair for an all ages performance. The moment aligns with Different When It’s Silent, his first release under his own name in six years, arriving after a run of projects on his False Idols label that include Lonely Guest with contributors such as Oh Land, Marta Złakowska, Joe Talbot, Murkage Dave, Paul Smith, and Lee Scratch Perry, Fifteen Days with producer Mike Theis under the name Theis Thaws, and a joint album with Marta last year. The new material reflects a period marked by personal loss and a desire to work quietly, a direction that shifted when manager Alan McGee encouraged presenting these songs as a Tricky album. On the record, Bristol singer Mitch Sanders leads most of the vocals, with additional appearances by Red Run Rambo and Christian Pattemore. The set of songs spans guitar grit, shadowy electronics, and moments colored by strings and an operatic voice, and it includes a reimagined version of Dope Lemon’s Marinade. Marta joins Tricky on the closing track Out of Place. True to form, he continues to spotlight emerging voices from his community. In addition, twenty five cents from each ticket supports The Shout Syndicate, a Boston based volunteer effort that funds youth led arts programs through The Boston Foundation in partnership with the Mayor’s Office of Arts and Culture.

Historic New England leads a guided walk through the Lyman Estate’s meandering woodland paths and garden trails, exploring how the landscape served as pleasure grounds, formal gardens, a pond system, woodlands, and a working farm over four generations of the Lyman family. Along the way, hear stories about the plants, wildlife, and the people who cared for them. The tour meets at the mansion’s front door and takes place rain or shine. The route includes uneven surfaces and inclines and lasts 90 minutes with no seating. Members $15, nonmembers $25. The historic greenhouses, among the oldest surviving complexes in the country, will be open for self-guided visits before or after the tour.

The Shout Syndicate is housed at The Boston Foundation and works in partnership with the Mayor's Office of Arts & Culture on the Boston Creates plan.

The Sinclair hosts a powerful pairing as ADULT. joins A Place To Bury Strangers for a night of noise, synths, and intensity. ADULT., the Detroit duo of Nicola Kuperus and Adam Lee Miller, has spent more than two decades fusing avant-garde ideas with electronics and punk, releasing seven albums on labels such as Dais, Mute, Ghostly International, Thrill Jockey, Third Man, Clone, and their own Ersatz Audio. Their work includes remixes for Liars, John Foxx, and Barry Adamson, stage appearances alongside Nitzer Ebb, L7, Severed Heads, and Gary Numan, and participation in Mute’s STUMM433 tribute to John Cage that featured artists like Depeche Mode, New Order, and Cabaret Voltaire. The duo recently finished an eighth album shaped by deliberate isolation, recorded in a blacked-out basement to explore how perception is formed and distorted. Titled PERCEPTION IS/AS/OF DECEPTION, it spans nine tracks that engage with ideas from Merleau-Ponty, Goethe, Aldous Huxley, and Jean Cocteau. All ages are welcome.
