WFF x Balter - UP Rooftop Garden Fusion Dance
A fusion dance returns to the UP Rooftop Garden, back on the open-air fourth floor after a very cold October visit last year. Music will come from DJs to be announced, and the night will include brief showcases by local dance groups. Masks are optional, with a limited number available upon request. Guests are asked to follow the community code of conduct: treat everyone with respect and kindness, be mindful that dance norms vary and check with your partner before attempting dips, lifts, close embrace or body rolls, ask about preferred role when inviting someone to dance, understand that anyone may decline a dance for any reason, and avoid alcohol or other recreational drug use at the dance.
A Midsummer Night's Dream: Free Shakespeare on the Common
Commonwealth Shakespeare Company marks its 30th anniversary on Boston Common with a lively, festival-inspired take on A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Young lovers step into a realm of freedom and longing where mischief reigns and affections shift in surprising ways. Puck, played by The Skivvies’ Nick Cearley, guides a troupe of fairies who spin the night’s emotions like DJs, conjuring magic that transforms everyone they touch. Music, mystery, and a strong sense of community charge the atmosphere as Shakespeare’s classic comedy unfolds at the Parkman Bandstand on Boston Common. This Free Shakespeare on the Common production is directed by CSC Founding Artistic Director Steven Maler and presented in partnership with the City of Boston, Mayor Michelle Wu, Boston Parks and Recreation, and the Mayor’s Office of Arts and Culture. Admission is free. All performances include open captions, with select shows offering ASL interpretation and audio description with a tactile tour. Guests may bring modest food items. For the comfort of others, please avoid umbrellas, tents, and canopies. Bring your own blanket or chair, or rent a chair on-site or online for $10. Reserved premium seating in the Friends Section is available with a donation of $100 or more.

The Night Bazaar: Summer Series (July)
Boston’s original night market returns for its fifth summer at the Charles River Speedway, activating the city’s largest outdoor dining courtyard. More than 100 small businesses set up shop with art, vinyl, vintage finds and other goods. Admission is free for all ages. A pop-up portrait studio by @bulkypigeon.photo offers playful, prop-filled sessions that take about five to ten minutes. Browse with a Notch Brewing beverage in hand. Food options include trucks such as @stuffedbypapi, @bonetownburgers, @frios_southboston7 and @tandoorandcurryonwheels, plus stalls like @dosmanoskitchen, @pizzaprojectboston, @linger.boston and @weitogopopup, along with @the.koji.club. Sip & Script presents a beginner friendly modern calligraphy workshop at Break Rock Brewing in Quincy, MA. Gracie Curran and the High Falutin Band deliver a fiery blend of blues and soul with a reputation for electrifying live performances that have resonated with audiences and critics alike. Additional recognition followed, including a New England Music Award nomination and two Boston Music Awards nominations, culminating in a win for Blues Artist of the Year. The momentum led to sold out shows and festival slots from Omaha to Ohio, plus shared stages with Buddy Guy, Shemekia Copeland, Tab Benoit, and Ronnie Earl. Designed for children ages 3 to 5 and their caregivers, this four week series blends playful movement, simple breathing exercises, and quiet reflection to strengthen attention, emotional understanding, confidence, and connection. Each session also includes a small hands-on activity or creative project to carry the experience further. Registration is required, and participants are asked to attend all four sessions. This program is funded by the Coordinated Family and Community Engagement grant awarded to the Quincy Braintree Family Network by the Department of Early Education and Care. The Quincy Braintree Family Network is a program of Quincy Community Action Programs, Inc.
Thomas Crane Public LibraryKids Summer Course League
A youth summer course league offers a six-week series centered on fun, friendly competition, and community. Each week brings a fresh course style and challenge format so kids can try new skills, build confidence, and track progress in a supportive setting. Participants may race for points or simply enjoy time with friends, and everyone gets the full experience. Registration includes event swag for every participant, weekly standings updated on a leaderboard, a new course layout each week, and skill-building opportunities, with prizes awarded to top point earners at the end of the season. Two age groups are available for ages 6 to 10 and 11 to 14, and each wave is limited to 12 participants. The fee is $25 per competition or $125 for the full six-event series. The season wraps up with a final week that reveals who rises to the top of the leaderboard.

Ruth Gordon AmphitheaterMan Man
Man Man takes the stage at The Sinclair with Death Valley Girls. This event is open to all ages. Fronted by Honus Honus, also known as Ryan Kattner, the band thrives on the tension between beauty and abrasion, order and chaos. Their Sub Pop debut, Dream Hunting in the Valley of the In-Between, arrived after more than six years and spans 17 songs that balance intimacy with fearless invention. Highlights include Cloud Nein, Future Peg, On the Mend, Sheela, and Animal Attraction. The album was produced by longtime collaborator Cyrus Ghahremani, mixed by S. Husky Höskulds, and mastered by Dave Cooley, with guest vocals from Dre Babinski of Steady Holiday on Future Peg and If Only, and Rebecca Black on On the Mend and Lonely Beuys. It followed the 2019 Sub Pop Singles Club entries Beached and Witch. Kattner reignited Man Man after a hiatus spent scoring for screen, taking on acting roles, and writing across several mediums while continuing to make new music. The record began on an upright piano in a sparse Los Angeles guesthouse, then evolved through live testing on stage before being re-recorded largely live to capture a fluid, organic band feel. Inspirations stretch from dream-born melodies and a childhood tape woven into Oyster Point, to a town encounter that inspired its title, to Goat, a jazz-tilted tale sparked by an unusual mishap. The collection also carries playful and pointed references, from the bristling spirit of Inner Iggy, to the art-world salute of Lonely Beuys, to Sheela, a pop-fuzz take on doo-wop shaped by the Wild Wild Country story. For each ticket sold, twenty-five cents benefits The Shout Syndicate, a Boston-based, volunteer-run effort that raises funds for youth-led arts programs at proven creative youth development nonprofits in Greater Boston, housed at The Boston Foundation in partnership with the Mayor’s Office of Arts & Culture’s Boston Creates plan.

Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians from the Weymouth Health Department will be at Weymouth Town Hall to provide car seat installations and safety inspections. Walk-ins are welcome with no appointment required. Staff will help families choose the right seat for a child’s size and demonstrate proper installation to improve safety in the event of a crash. Questions are encouraged, and limited support may be available for eligible families who need a car seat but cannot afford one. At the Harvard Museum of Natural History, young Earth explorers entering grades 1 to 3 dive into geology and paleontology using the museum’s collections and exhibits. Led by a professional educator, this Summer Science Week program is capped at 15 students. In a museum classroom and galleries, children work both independently and in small groups to examine specimens, run experiments, make crafts, play games, explore exhibits, and have fun. More than one hundred decoupage napkin designs are available, including seasonal, coastal, holiday, and everyday motifs, so every set can reflect a unique style. Each coaster is finished with cork backing for stability, and all materials are supplied, including paint, Mod Podge, resin application, brushes, scissors, and other tools. Continuing Balboa at Dance Complex spotlights skill building with a dedicated skills and drills theme. This session emphasizes unsyncopated rhythm, with coaching designed to sharpen timing and clarity of movement. Instruction follows an ELEF approach, so everyone practices both leading and following, supporting balanced roles and stronger dancing through cross training. Participants should already be comfortable with Pure Balboa basics, toss-outs, swivels, and out-and-ins. These figures are reviewed as part of class, but the material assumes you have danced them before in both roles. Earlier weeks in the series focused on improving toss-outs and speed, while a posture and balance class was canceled due to heat and will be rescheduled.

Designed for ages 5 to 9, this active camp blends ninja-style obstacle courses and rock climbing with group and team challenges. Each session balances guided instruction with time to explore independently, encouraging confidence, movement, and plenty of fun with friends. A typical day includes arrival and bag drop, a warmup with introductions and a quick review of camp guidelines, obstacle skill instruction, open gym time, a collaborative team challenge, more free play with a snack break, a featured game or activity, and pickup to finish the day. His honors include a Pushcart Prize and a Whiting Award, along with recognition from the Pew Fellowship in the Arts and the Witter Bynner Foundation in conjunction with the Library of Congress. His poems and essays have appeared in American Poetry Review, The New Yorker, Orion, the Paris Review, Ploughshares, Poetry, Poetry London, and ZYZZYVA. He lives in Nashville, where he holds the Gertrude Conaway Vanderbilt Chair in the Humanities at Vanderbilt University, hosts The Slowdown podcast in partnership with the Poetry Foundation and American Public Media, and serves as poetry editor of the Harvard Review.

Presented in collaboration with UMAss Boston’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, this talk explores how a city built on a lagoon grew into a maritime and commercial powerhouse and continues to navigate the challenges of the present. Spanning 1,500 years and organized in four parts, the program follows Venice from its origins as a refuge on mudflats after the fall of Rome to a global trading hub that linked Europe with the East. It considers how geography, commerce, advances at sea, and pragmatic governance forged a small yet far-reaching empire, how prosperity fueled extraordinary achievements in art, architecture, music, and civic life, how changes in world trade and Napoleon’s conquest brought the republic to an end, and how Venice has repeatedly adapted in the face of heavy tourism and rising seas. The presenter, Michael J. Ranieri, earned a history degree from St. Francis College and a master’s in Chinese studies from St. John’s University in New York, where he also taught Chinese history and Mandarin. He spent three decades in international banking, living and working in Taipei, Bangkok, and Hong Kong for more than 20 years. He later shifted to research, writing, and lecturing, contributed the Asia Watch column to an Oregonian newspaper while serving as a destination lecturer on cruise ships, and authored Nonno and the History of Our Family. His work for Primo magazine includes Making Nonno Proud, Tribute to Michael S. Vaccaro (1931-2016): A Proud Italian, Great Teacher and Role Model, For God and Treasure: The Adventures of Two Pioneers: Marco Polo and Christopher Columbus, The Joys of La Famiglia Italiana: Sunday Dinner at Grandma’s, and Venice: Getting Immersed in its Charm and History. This fast 5K begins and ends in downtown Cambridge, Massachusetts, and includes a smooth stretch along Massachusetts Avenue. The course is flat and quick, guiding runners back to a lively celebration soon after they cross the finish. The post race festivities feature beer from Castle Island Brewing Co. Registration uses tiered pricing that ranges from $40 to $50, and these Cambridge Classic events often fill up, so earlier entry leads to better rates. All registered participants receive a short sleeve technical T shirt with gender specific sizing. Teams add extra excitement, with groups of at least 20 able to sign up as social teams made up of friends, family, running partners or coworkers, or as company teams formed by employees of one organization. Qualifying teams receive VIP perks that include a reserved tent and table in the finish area, cold beer ready at the end, and a prime spot to enjoy the music, and participants can create or join a team during registration. The largest social team and the largest company team earn special recognition, complete with an oversized trophy.
