Set in 1911 during the coronation festivities for King George V and Queen Mary, the story centers on Elsie, an American showgirl in London, who meets the roving-eyed Prince Regent of the Balkan state of Carpathia, played by Olivier, after a performance. She accepts an invitation to a private supper at his embassy apartment, sparking a witty back-and-forth as he attempts to draw in the reluctant yet curious Elsie. Their encounter soon pulls her into the royal family’s political maneuvering, with comic twists along the way. The cast features Sybil Thorndike, Jeremy Spenser, David Thorne, and Richard Wattis, with cinematography by Jack Cardiff and music by Richard Addinsell.

Continuing Balboa classes in this series concentrate on skills and drills, with weekly themes that include refining toss outs, dancing at faster tempos, and, for this session, working with unsyncopated rhythm and timing. Instruction follows an ELEF approach, so everyone practices both leading and following to maintain balanced roles and to strengthen each dancer’s primary role through cross training. A Midsummer Night's Dream: Free Shakespeare on the Common

Commonwealth Shakespeare Company celebrates its 30th anniversary with A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Parkman Bandstand on Boston Common, reimagining Shakespeare’s comedy as a neon-lit festival where boundaries loosen and self-expression takes center stage. Young lovers fall in and out of favor under a spell of mayhem while Puck, played by The Skivvies’ Nick Cearley, and a mischievous fairy crew toy with fate like DJs mixing hearts. Directed by CSC Founding Artistic Director Steven Maler, this Free Shakespeare on the Common production is presented in partnership with the City of Boston, Mayor Michelle Wu, Boston Parks and Recreation, and the Mayor’s Office of Arts and Culture. Performances are free to attend. All shows include open captions, with select performances offering ASL interpretation and audio description with a tactile tour, and captions are provided by CCTheater from AccessTech, LLC. Audience members may bring modest food items and are asked to refrain from using umbrellas, tents, and canopies. Seminar: Dragon Inn (1967)

Explore the rebellious, gravity-defying world of classic wuxia through a seminar centered on King Hu’s 1967 milestone Dragon Inn. This welcoming introduction looks at the genre’s influential second wave, when filmmakers like Hu refreshed its style with wire work, acrobatic performances, and complex fight choreography, turning wuxia into a bold technical spectacle that helped set the stage for Hollywood’s later embrace of Ang Lee’s Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. The session is led by Cass Clarke, a horror writer, film critic, youth facilitator, and lifelong martial artist. They are part of GALECA, a society of LGBTQ+ critics, and their work on film and television has appeared in outlets such as Fangoria, Rue Morgue, Den of Geek, Slash Film, Marvel, and more. Their background includes leading entertainment newsrooms, attending film festivals, and interviewing cult icons like Elvira. Cass currently works with Teens in Print as a Youth Program Specialist, creating and teaching journalism curricula that center teen voice and choice for young people in Boston. They hold an MFA in Writing, Literature, and Publishing from Emerson College and a BA in English Literature from Suffolk University, and they are a 3rd Dan black belt in ITF-style Taekwon-do who also coaches young children.

At the heart of Area 404 at Boomtown Fair in Winchester, Acid Leak turns an intimate room into a post-reactor landscape charged with Acid Techno, Hardhouse, NRG and Techno. Visitors encounter glowing green barrels and vivid laser effects while pounding kicks and a searing acid bassline drive the atmosphere. The theme plays on a toxic spill as a reminder of human impact on the planet, while also “leaking” the unmistakable acid sound shaped by the Roland TB-303. Built in the 1980s as a bass companion, the TB-303 later defined Acid House and remains central to dance music, and that heritage powers every moment here. Expect a self-governed, anarchic spirit and an unyielding flow of 303-fueled energy.

Now in its sixth year, this Indigenous Peoples Day Newton ceremonial gathering at Albermarle Field brings people together to honor the cultures, histories, resilience, and living traditions of Indigenous Peoples through learning, community, and respect. It is billed as the largest Indigenous-led ceremonial celebration in Massachusetts. The 2026 theme, Medicines of the Lands: Healing Through Ancestral Plants, highlights the enduring relationship between Indigenous communities and the natural world, emphasizing how plants have long offered nourishment, healing, ceremony, and guidance, with teachings grounded in observation, reciprocity, and responsibility. Attendees can experience an opening Indigenous ceremony and sacred fire, traditional drum groups, music and dance performances, tribal representatives and cultural educators, teachings on Indigenous plant medicines and traditional ecological knowledge, artist demonstrations and an Indigenous artisan marketplace, Indigenous food vendors, educational exhibits, activities for children, a sensory-friendly area, accessibility support, and participation from community organizations. Respect for cultural protocols is central. Guests are asked to honor Indigenous traditions, seek permission before photographing ceremonies, sacred spaces, or individuals, recognize that some songs, stories, medicines, and ceremonies should not be replicated or shared outside their original contexts, support Indigenous creators by purchasing directly from them, care for the land by leaving no trace, and listen with openness and humility. Admission is free and open to the public, and both Indigenous community members and allies are welcome for a day of celebration, learning, healing, and community.
