    World Poetry Salon

162 Mystic Ave, Medford · verified Aug 16
    Free

Explore modern poetry through short works by some of the twentieth century’s most celebrated writers. In this free, salon style series, participants listen to or read poems, share first impressions, and talk through questions and themes that arise. Texts are provided at the meeting, so no advance reading is needed. This session spotlights U.S. poets Frank O'Hara and James Schuyler. Each gathering lasts 90 minutes and stands on its own, making it easy to attend one or many. The conversation highlights poets who witnessed social upheaval and helped shape modern literature through their responses to historical events. A global perspective brings in writers from many languages in translation. Brief introductions open the discussion instead of formal lectures, and the group builds connections through shared observations and questions. Open to all levels of experience, from longtime poetry readers to the simply curious. Hosted by Gary Roberts, a poet and cofounder of Arts Collaborative Medford, within a broader literary arts initiative. Participants may bring coffee, tea, or a notebook for a relaxed conversation about how poetry can reflect, resist, and reimagine the world.
