Playback Theatre invites participants to share moments from their lives and then experience those stories reflected through movement, sound, emotion, and image. The process welcomes subconscious and mysterious elements to surface as everyone explores where they are on their path. Movement, inner and outer characters, costume, objects, and the symbolic images that circulate in the psyche help reveal both the familiar and the unknown. Participants are invited to consider how relationships, social identities, and archetypal forces shape their experience. Through enactment the focus shifts from excessive talking to essence and feeling, allowing a vivid shared image to emerge and trust to grow. Sharing and witnessing stories cultivates empathetic listening to one another and to the larger questions that hold the group. Creativity and clarity take shape, and seeing your story played back or playing back for others can be deeply moving. Longer stories may include questions, direction from the teller, alternate endings, or the involvement of others. Please bring evocative objects or props to use. Michael Mercurio is a poet, editor, and critic with work in Palette Poetry, Thrush, The Common, and more, and he curates the virtual series What The Universe Is, where established and emerging poets read together monthly. Explore how the international Arts and Crafts movement took shape in the Forest Park Heights Historic District on a guided walk centered on the American Craftsman style and its English roots. The route features local examples while tracing the shift away from the ornate, mass-produced fashions of the Victorian era and the ways British ideas made their way to the United States in the early 1900s. Admission is $5 for Springfield Preservation Trust and Springfield Museums members and $10 for nonmembers, with payment available in advance on Eventbrite or at the start of the tour. Presented as part of the Second Saturday Tours series highlighting historic Springfield, the program is co-presented by the Springfield Preservation Trust, Springfield Museums, and Springfield Libraries and is supported by the Springfield Cultural Council and the Mass Cultural Council. The walk is led by Bob McCarroll, a longtime advocate for Springfield’s historic resources whose service dates to the 1970s. His background includes decades with the Springfield Planning Department helping establish early local historic districts, eleven years on the Springfield Historical Commission, and membership on the Springfield Community Preservation Committee. He has served on the Springfield Preservation Trust board for more than 45 years, organizing house tours and self-guided walking brochures and coordinating preservation grant projects. He is a longtime resident of the Mattoon Street Historic District and coordinates the Mattoon Street Arts Festival, the region’s oldest arts and crafts show. He holds a Bachelor of Arts from the College of William and Mary and a Master of City and Regional Planning from Rutgers University, and his honors include the Massachusetts Historical Commission Local Preservationist Award, Preservation Massachusetts K. Julie McCarthy Community Spirit Award, the Order of William Pynchon, and the Mass History Alliance Bay State Legacy Award.

At Forbes Library in Northampton, poets Jendi Reiter and Karen (Q) Keough-Huff present readings that connect poetry, queer identity, and social change. Jendi reads from the collection Introvert Pervert, praised by Denise Duhamel for uniting the political and the personal with both wit and tenderness. The author of nine books of poetry and prose, Jendi also wrote the novels Two Natures and Origin Story from Saddle Road Press, and has received two fellowships from the Massachusetts Cultural Council, the Saints & Sinners Literary Festival Award, and the Oscar Wilde Award from Gival Press. Their work engages themes of belonging and becoming, magic, queerness, and family violence. Karen, also known as Q, shares poems from When I Was 8 and The QBird Speaks, reflecting on life, childhood, and falling in love with her wife. She is a member of Straw Dog Writers Guild and the Writing Sisters, a group of BIPOC and LGBTQ+ women writers in western Massachusetts, and credits communities such as the Writing Sisters and Guerrera writer Zoom sessions hosted by Mydalis Vera with helping her move from private writing to performance and strengthening her voice. Her additional books include the nonfiction titles The Viking and The Mayflower and Four Pawed Angels, and the novel Sarah’s Hope. This program centers on poetry and resistance.

This is a welcoming, inclusive sensory playgroup where children read together, make new friends, and explore a new Communication Board. Activities are sensory friendly and guided by each child, allowing participation at a comfortable pace. The program is designed with neurodiverse children and their caregivers in mind. For ages 5 to 13.

Arctoberfest at Arcpoint Brewing Company features live music from Fox and the Dragon with a mix of 90s hits, one hit wonders, classic rock, and folk. Beer and live tunes set the scene for a brewery celebration.

Libra encourages balance, gentleness in relationships, and honoring boundaries with grace, while keeping attention on what truly lives in the heart. The experience weaves Reiki healing, breathwork, restorative yoga, and a sacred ritual that blends candle magic with plant allies to support personal growth and help bring deep desires into form. At the Academy of Music Theatre, Western Massachusetts artist Kimaya Diggs unveils Green, her third studio album. The 12 song collection blends shimmering, genre crossing indie pop with her rich, honey toned vocals and candid, attentive writing. A band of longtime Western Mass collaborators, including members of LuxDeluxe, Cloudbelly, and others, powers the release show as a salute to the local music community, creativity, and collaboration. Fresh from dates with Trombone Shorty, Emily King, and Mavis Staples, the group aims for a deeply connected experience that can spark dancing or tears. Alisa Amador opens the night. Listeners who enjoy Corinne Bailey Rae, Olivia Dean, Lianne La Havas, Maggie Rogers, or Minnie Riperton may feel right at home. Queer Story Slam presents its fourth edition focused on awakenings, bringing together queer voices for an evening of true stories about renewal, awareness, and choosing action even before certainty arrives. In turbulent moments, an awakening can stir someone from sleep or indifference, rekindle interest, and offer fresh clarity. These turning points help people regain their footing after disorder and move toward balance. The event takes place at Bombyx Center for Arts & Equity in Florence, MA. Tickets are offered on a sliding scale of $5, $10, $20 and higher, pay what you can. Seating is general admission, and no one is turned away for lack of funds. Proceeds sustain Queer Story Slam and help make future gatherings possible, with shared stories lighting the way toward a queer future shaped by the community.
