    Golden Rose Poetry Award

    On summer Sunday afternoons, the Longfellow House lawn becomes a welcoming gathering place for music, poetry, and community as part of the Longfellow Summer Arts Festival. Admission is free and everyone is welcome, and this reading is offered in partnership with the New England Poetry Club. The featured poet is Marie Howe, recipient of the 2026 Golden Rose Award for Poetry and author of New and Selected Poems from W. W. Norton (2024), which brings together new work with poems from her four earlier books. She served as New York State Poet Laureate from 2012 to 2014, is poet in residence at the Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine, and is a chancellor of the Academy of American Poets. Her debut, The Good Thief, was chosen for the National Poetry Series by Margaret Atwood and received the Lavan Younger Poets Prize from the American Academy of Poets. The collection is known for voices that confront doubt and revelation through biblical and mythic imagery, as well as long, meditative lines exploring the ties between body and spirit. Howe has taught at Sarah Lawrence College, Columbia University, and NYU, coedited In the Company of My Solitude: American Writing from the AIDS Pandemic, and earned fellowships from the Bunting Institute at Radcliffe College, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Guggenheim Foundation, the Academy of American Poets, and the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown. She lives in New York City.
