The featured poet is Marie Howe, recipient of the 2026 Golden Rose Award for Poetry and author of New and Selected Poems from W. W. Norton (2024), which brings together new work with poems from her four earlier books. She served as New York State Poet Laureate from 2012 to 2014, is poet in residence at the Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine, and is a chancellor of the Academy of American Poets. Her debut, The Good Thief, was chosen for the National Poetry Series by Margaret Atwood and received the Lavan Younger Poets Prize from the American Academy of Poets. The collection is known for voices that confront doubt and revelation through biblical and mythic imagery, as well as long, meditative lines exploring the ties between body and spirit. Howe has taught at Sarah Lawrence College, Columbia University, and NYU, coedited In the Company of My Solitude: American Writing from the AIDS Pandemic, and earned fellowships from the Bunting Institute at Radcliffe College, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Guggenheim Foundation, the Academy of American Poets, and the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown. She lives in New York City.

The fifteenth annual back to school celebration welcomes families to TD Garden in Boston for practical support ahead of the new school year. Attendees can pick up essentials such as backpacks, classroom supplies, winter coats and more so students are ready to return to class. Last year, 3,500 families from across the Boston area benefited through a collaboration of TD Garden, The Salvation Army Massachusetts Division and the City of Boston, and the aim is to match that impact again. Over the last decade, TD Garden in the Community has provided more than 56,000 backpacks to Greater Boston. Registration is required and space is limited.
