At Orange Community Boathouse, moonlight paddling is back with a few updates. There will be fewer LED markers along the route and obstacles, and there may not be an upstream staff spotter, a role that has rarely been needed. The boathouse will stay open through the day into the night rather than limiting paddling to a short evening window. For visibility, rental boats must display glow sticks or LED lights, and every boat needs a working flashlight. While the flashlight is often just a backup, it is required. Evening rentals have a two-hour minimum, and walk-ins are welcomed later into the night. Created after the longest pause of their 23 years together, the project had Dunn writing for two drum parts, giving Fogarty one of the toughest challenges of his career. Longtime visual collaborator Rob Fleming contributes artwork set in a familiar yet anonymous scene, where a stained glass-like building and a streetlight blur at the edges, hinting at motion that contains rather than liberates. Uncanny Valley Girl brings back long-dormant effects like delay to layer dense bass lines over steady drums, while Bjork’s Alarm Clock borrows its name from an early-career jab and pairs buoyant low end with bow-swept textures. Choro and samba fill Bombyx with the sounds of Rio as the renowned ensemble Água de Moringa appears with vocalist Mariana Baltar. The event combines a musician-focused workshop with a concert that reflects the artistry connected to Choro Camp New England. In the workshop, musicians curious about Brazil's choro tradition receive guidance from Água de Moringa while exploring a concise history of the style, the roles instruments play within an ensemble, key rhythmic approaches, and the chance to play several choros together in contrasting feels. Players of strings plucked or bowed, fretted or not, along with winds, percussion, and keyboard or accordion are all welcome. The session also serves as a pathway to an ongoing weekly choro study group led by Brazilian guitarist Mauro Correa, and coincides with the ensemble’s visit to teach at Choro Camp New England. The concert showcases Água de Moringa with Mariana Baltar in a program of choro and samba. Together for more than three decades, the group is rooted in traditional choro, reflected in instrumentation that includes six and seven string guitars, cavaquinho, pandeiro, bandolim, and clarinet. With ten albums released, they have performed and taught across Brazil and in France, Portugal, and Colombia. Guided by a range of 5Rhythms maps, it offers instruction and movement explorations that invite participants into the practice. To support those with chemical or scent sensitivities, please arrive fragrance free, avoiding scented detergents on clothing as well as scented hair or body products and essential oils as much as possible. 5Rhythms is a straightforward movement practice for every body, regardless of shape, size, age, experience, or limitations. Founded by Gabrielle Roth, it does not use set steps. The depth of the work comes from each dancer’s own embodied awareness. A session moves through flowing, staccato, chaos, lyrical, and stillness, known together as a Wave, with attention on the unique medicine of each rhythm rather than on mastery. Expect time to arrive and move on your own, along with gentle guidance through music and spoken invitations. You may be prompted to deepen your solo dance, explore partnership for brief or extended moments, or engage as part of a larger group. Each class responds to the people in the room, the rhythms open countless movement landscapes, and no two sessions are the same. Participants are asked to help create a safe and courageous environment. Because this is a nonverbal practice, make eye contact before initiating touch and honor personal boundaries. Some dancers may be in a deep process or moving with eyes closed, so touch can be disruptive. After making eye contact, if you prefer not to be touched, communicate a clear no with words or a simple gesture such as a respectful bow, crossing your arms, or stepping away. All are welcome across race, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, ability, body shape and size, language, and age. The space is intended to be accessible to all bodies. With respect, this gathering acknowledges the homelands of the Nipmuc, Pocumtuc, and Nonotuc peoples. The Native settlement at what is now Northampton was called Norwottuck or Nonotuck, meaning the midst of the river.

Katie Pruitt brings the Fools for the Fleeting Tour to The Iron Horse with Next of Kin on the bill. Pruitt’s latest album examines change and impermanence with intimate storytelling and vivid, nature-rooted imagery, carried by her warm voice and a sound that draws from Americana and indie rock. The recording leans into acoustic textures and the live-in-the-room feel created with musicians including guitarist Juan Solorzano and drummer Aksel Coe. Local 2548 hosts its first Golf Scramble Tournament at the Country Club of Greenfield, bringing the community together to give back and support one of their own. Proceeds are split between two causes, with half benefiting the Whitney family as they face a battle with brain cancer and half supporting a Health and Wellness Fund that provides ongoing cancer screenings for firefighters to promote early detection and prevention. Lin is an independent artist, practice-led researcher, writer, and cultural worker whose interspecies and socially engaged projects honor beloved places and seed stories that move beyond a single worldview. A former Goddard College MFA faculty member for nearly two decades until the school’s closure in 2024, she holds a PhD in Environmental Studies from Antioch University New England and works as a narrative coach for public health organizations in Massachusetts. Her first play, Phoenix in the HolyLand, supports global peace efforts that confront ecocide and genocide, and her writing appears in Writing the Land anthologies as well as the collections Ecological and Social Healing: Multicultural Women’s Voices and Contemplative Practices and Acts of Resistance in Higher Education: Narratives Toward Wholeness.
