Presented by DSP Shows, Old Mervs bring their story from a small Western Australian town to The Drake in Amherst. Dave and Henry have been inseparable since school days in Kojonup, where they first rehearsed in a converted farm shed. Their self-titled debut, created with ARIA winner Chris Collins, topped the ARIA album chart and earned triple j’s Feature Album nod, propelled by tracks such as “Parched”, “What You’ve Lost”, “Forget It”, “Everyone Will See It” and “Don’t Go”. After a landmark year that included a 20 date tour across Australia and New Zealand, their biggest headline show at Perth HPC, a run of US headline dates and an Audiotree session, plus a turn at Lollapalooza with Olivia Rodrigo, Tyler the Creator and Sabrina Carpenter before returning to the UK and playing first shows in Europe, the duo heads back to the US with more new music on the horizon. Expect a performance that reflects their momentum as they continue major headline dates and festival appearances including Kilby Block Party and Gov Ball.

Presented by DSP Shows and The Drake, this Amherst concert features Big D and the Kids Table with Matamoska. Big D and the Kids Table, a Boston ska punk band formed in 1995, arrives with The Good Ole American Saturday Night, the group’s first full-length release in five years. The album reunites them with producer Joe Gittleman of The Mighty Mighty BossTones, who previously worked on Strictly Rude and Fluent In Stroll, as well as Matt Appleton of Reel Big Fish and Goldfinger, producer of their 2021 album Do Your Art. The performance takes place at The Drake in Amherst, MA.

Sierra Ferrell brings the Heavy Petal Tour to The Pines Theater at Look Park in Northampton, MA, presented by DSP Shows. The West Virginia-born, Nashville-based singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist is a standout in roots music, following the 2024 release of Trail Of Flowers on Rounder Records. That album earned her Artist of the Year and Album of the Year at the Americana Honors & Awards, along with four GRAMMY wins for Best Americana Album for Trail Of Flowers, Best American Roots Performance for Lighthouse, Best Americana Performance for American Dreaming, and Best American Roots Song for American Dreaming. Known for lively, captivating shows across North America and Europe, she blends bluegrass, old-time traditions, and gritty honky-tonk with vivid, contemporary storytelling. Created with producer Eddie Spear and additional production by Gary Paczosa, Trail Of Flowers features contributions from Chris Scruggs and guest appearances by Lukas Nelson and Nikki Lane, with sessions largely at Sound Emporium Studios. The record moves from the driving Fox Hunt to the haunting Rosemary, the swinging Dollar Bill Bar, and the harmony-filled I Could Drive You Crazy, while American Dreaming reflects on striving for a good life in a consumer-driven culture. Ferrell has collaborated with Margo Price, Old Crow Medicine Show, and Post Malone, and her earlier full-length, Long Time Coming, drew praise from outlets including Pitchfork, Paste, Pop Matters, and No Depression. The performance showcases rich vocals, inventive musicianship, and songs that channel nostalgia while looking toward the future of the genre.

Filmmaker Matt Hinton will be present for a post-screening Q&A. The feature-length documentary Awake, My Soul: The Story of the Sacred Harp delves into the history, sound, and living practices of Sacred Harp singing, a uniquely American tradition that has endured for more than two centuries. Long nurtured in rural communities of the Deep South, this participatory music thrives at community “singings,” where large groups focus on taking part rather than performing for an audience. Songs are launched with shape-note syllables that guide the voices and open the door to melodies of celebration and grief, often at once. Listeners may recognize this choral style from the film Cold Mountain or from samples used by artists such as Bruce Springsteen and M.I.A., and the past several decades have brought notable growth across the United States and in many other countries. The Sacred Harp hymnal, first published in Georgia in 1844, saw its first update in more than thirty years with a new edition released in September 2025. This presentation features a newly remastered, updated, and re-edited version of the film. Part of Sound & Vision, a program dedicated to the world of sound and the experience of listening, highlighting musical movements, subcultures, and overlooked chapters through documentaries, concert films, and narrative features. Launched in 2016 as a summer series, Sound & Vision now continues into its second decade as a year-round celebration.
