Attendees will learn how to adjust formatting, save documents, add images or graphs, and prepare files to save and print. Local herbalists lead a relaxed herbal walk starting at Cullen Plaza, tracing the Detroit Riverfront and exploring Milliken State Park. Open to all ages, the stroll focuses on learning how to identify and connect with plants. A hands-on segment is included, and participants create a small herbal item to take home. Registration is recommended but optional. A limited amount of free parking is available on site and on nearby streets, so plan a little extra time to park and reach the meeting spot inside the plaza. The route is short and primarily on smooth paths, with opportunities to step onto natural surfaces. Bring a reusable water bottle and wear comfortable, weather-ready clothing.

An annual summertime Tuesday Market brings together familiar Saturday Market vendors with local products and produce, along with added health and wellness resources. Free yoga and Zumba take place in Shed 3. Food trucks offer lunch options, and many district businesses are open for eating, shopping, and exploring.

Led by Lee Ann from Wild Daisy Creative, this hands-on class at Urbanrest Brewing Company teaches the complete cold process technique for making gentle, natural soap from scratch. Participants create a full batch and leave with about eight bars, a reusable mold, and a printed recipe card to repeat the process at home. The cost is $48 and includes all materials and safety gear used during class. To transport your soap, please bring an old towel and a baking sheet. Scents are available to customize your batch, including Lavender, Citrus Energy Blend, Rose Gold, Warm Vanilla Sugar, Driftwood and Amber, and Shave and a Haircut. This workshop welcomes beginners and anyone exploring a more natural skincare routine. Registration is required to attend. Please note that the formula contains coconut oil. An interactive summer series introduces children to mindfulness and energy awareness in a playful, supportive setting. The program builds skills in grounding, emotional awareness, and nervous system regulation so kids can better understand their feelings and what affects them. Each class blends movement, conversation, guided visualization, and breathing practices with practical tools for calming and emotional release. Children take part in sound work with singing bowls and shared healing activities, and learn simple ways to reset the nervous system. Foundational ideas like chakras, meridians, and the aura are presented in kid-friendly ways, along with clear practices for setting healthy energetic boundaries. Participants gain everyday strategies for stress relief, grounding, confidence, mindfulness, self awareness, and resilient coping. This offering is designed with sensitive children in mind and may be especially supportive for empaths and kids navigating ADHD, autism, anxiety, PTSD, or frequent overwhelm. Younger children may attend with a parent or trusted adult, and older children can participate independently. The series includes five sessions across the summer. Early bird pricing is $147, at-the-door is $177, and a sibling add-on is available for $77 to $97. Led by Donna Lakes, founder of the Ascension School of Healing Arts, who brings more than 25 years in the healing arts working with sensitive children, teens, and adults to cultivate grounding, mindfulness, self regulation, and strong energetic boundaries. This special program at the Ferndale Area District Library is designed for movie lovers, mythology enthusiasts, and fans of Christopher Nolan. In place of the regular Film Club discussion, educators Harry Campion and John Monaghan, who taught The Odyssey for nearly twenty years at Grosse Pointe South, present a multi‑faceted exploration of history, myth, literature, and the new Christopher Nolan film. Campion draws on deep knowledge of Greek art and mythology, while Monaghan, a film historian and former Detroit Free Press film critic, examines Nolan’s work, including The Dark Knight, Dunkirk, and Oppenheimer, and considers how this story connects with his earlier films. An RSVP is requested to reserve a spot.

This monthly discussion group for science fiction offers both in-person and Zoom participation. Conversations span a wide range of subgenres, including hard and soft sci fi, space opera, speculative fiction, dystopian futures, cyberpunk, steampunk, and more. MotorCity Wine hosts a tango gathering featuring special guest TDJ Djay Villano Del Tango from Los Angeles, arriving early for the 4th Annual Motown Tango Marathon. A new instructional focus explores ochos and giros in vals timing. Two classes are offered. Foundations I introduces essential Argentine tango skills through individual and partnered practice for those starting out. Foundations II builds on the basics with playful combinations and progresses from week to week while remaining drop in friendly. After the classes, a social milonga invites dancing, conversation, and time to enjoy passionate tango music from the TDJs. Pricing is $20 for one class with the milonga included, $30 for two classes taken back to back, and $65 for a full month of classes. The milonga has a $15 suggested contribution and is complimentary for class participants. The event runs on an honor system and aims to be accessible to all. Everyone is welcome, no partner is required, and everyone is encouraged to both lead and follow.

At Go Comedy! Improv Theater, eight trios of improvisers square off in a bracketed competition built around quick-hit short form games. In each matchup, two teams take the stage to tackle randomly selected challenges, keeping every round unpredictable. When the sets wrap, the audience votes to decide who moves forward. The team that goes all the way wins $500 and a night performing in The Go Comedy! All-Star Showdown. Limit 4 tickets per customer.

Brightmoor Artisans Collective presents its annual Back to School Market, a community-focused celebration of wellness and local creativity. The day begins with a free Movement for Wellness class open to all ages and abilities, followed by a market featuring local artisan and cottage food vendors alongside community resource organizations. Michigan State University Nursing students will offer complimentary wellness checkups. Brightmoor youth can receive a free bicycle through a giveaway available while supplies last; distribution is first come, first choice, and youth must be present with an accompanying adult. The B'moor Nourished Free Pantry and an Eastern Market produce booth will also be available. Whether shopping local, connecting with resources, picking up fresh food, or taking part in wellness activities, attendees can get ready for the new school year together.

Sterling Elementary is partnering with the Detroit Tigers for a fundraising night at Comerica Park in Detroit, with the Tigers facing the Chicago White Sox. For every ticket sold, $10 is donated to Sterling Elementary in Carleton, supporting enrichment programs, classroom resources, and student activities. Before the game, Friday Night Party in the Park features live music, interactive games and activities, and food available throughout the ballpark, with festivities beginning when the gates open and continuing up to first pitch. After the game, a postgame fireworks show lights up the Detroit skyline to close out the evening.

Comerica Park sets the scene for a Ferris State spirit day as the Detroit Tigers take on the Chicago White Sox. The Ferris State Alumni Association offers a $45 FSU Spirit Ticket package that includes a game ticket, entry to the Blue Moon Bases Loaded Bar, and an exclusive co-branded Detroit Tigers and Ferris State hooded tee. Seating for this package is in and around section 218, and a portion of each purchase supports the Alumni Legacy Scholarship. Details about picking up the hooded tee will be emailed about one week before the game. Apparel distribution is coordinated by the Tigers, and the Alumni Association does not have shirts on hand. Package tickets must be purchased through the Ferris State Alumni registration page and are delivered electronically. An email from the Alumni Association with instructions for retrieving your ticket will arrive approximately one week prior, so please ensure your email address is correct when registering. Outdoor hustle and line dancing at Beacon Park features instruction from the N’Namdi Movement Center with Maurice Adams, welcoming both beginners and dancers with some experience. Explore the basics of solo styles including hustle, line dances and introductory ballroom steps in an open air setting with views of the city. Comfortable clothing is recommended, along with a refillable water bottle for the station on site and sun protection. Admission is free and all are welcome, and capacity is limited to what the park can accommodate.
