A recent graduate who studied trumpet, he balances daytime teaching of K–8 general music at a Lansing charter school with nights devoted to performing and creating. His approach draws from many genres with a stated goal of bringing people together, and by 22 he had already collaborated with leading figures across Detroit, national, and international jazz communities. Brown’s work in the studio includes Lovely, his self-produced debut from 2022, a pop-leaning reflection on heartbreak that featured fellow MSU musicians and earned favorable notes from outlets including the Dearborn Free Press. He has continued to release singles and collaborations while completing his degree, and a new project is in development. On stage, he is an active jazz trumpet performer with appearances at notable venues in Detroit, in Tokyo, and at Lincoln Center in New York City. Mentors and teachers include Anthony Stanco and Rodney Whitaker, along with Detroit mainstays Kris Johnson, Vincent Chandler, Scott Gwinell, Marcus Elliot, and Rayse Biggs. Through MSU’s program he has performed and toured with artists such as Renee Rosnes, Jazzmeia Horn, Stefon Harris, Marquis Hill, Geoffrey Keezer, Carmen Bradford, Camille Thurman, Ryan Keberle, Randy Napoleon, Michael Dease, and Walter Blanding. He has also been a finalist for the National Trumpet Competition and the International Trumpet Guild Jazz Competition in 2025. This engagement features two performances.
