Now in its fourth year, The Three Ring Circuit returns with a full weekend of axe throwing spread across two Detroit Axe locations and six competitions. This edition features a double major with a Women’s IATF Major titled The Fern, open to all who identify as women, and an Open IATF Major open to all throwers. Both majors use premier rules in a double-elimination format. Rounding out the lineup, Detroit Axe Corktown hosts a mini-marathon with a 12-game regular season followed by playoffs and a 20-thrower limit, along with a doubles tournament that runs as double elimination with the possibility of group play feeding into the bracket. Celebrated for a flexible, wide-ranging approach that remains grounded in bebop and straight-ahead jazz, Sekine’s playing emphasizes rhythm, emotion, and in-the-moment creation within the lineage of Black American music. Sekine grew up immersed in music, art, and fashion and spent formative years in Singapore, where a multicultural environment informed a multifaceted musical voice. Early experiences included percussion in a brass band and playing in a rock band, alongside deep listening to soul, funk, Motown, and blues. After studying jazz at Berklee College of Music, Sekine moved to New York in 1994 and became active across the city’s diverse scene. Since 2002, long-term work in Singapore has encompassed performance, education, and community building, including helping establish live music at Blu Jaz Cafe, founding the non-profit We Love Jazz SG, and leading the community improvisation workshop Jungle Jam. In recognition of contributions to International Jazz Day, Sekine was invited by the Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz and UNESCO to perform at the Global Host Celebration in Melbourne. Since 2018, Sekine has also developed a visual arts practice. In 2022, Sekine left Singapore, obtained U.S. permanent residency under the EB-1 category for the arts, spent a period working in Japan, and relocated to Detroit in 2024. Current activities include collaborations with prominent local musicians such as Wendell Harrison, appearances at the Detroit Jazz Festival and other festivals, and teaching at the Michigan State University Community Music School Detroit. Sekine also founded Double Strut LLC in Detroit, released the album High! as part of the improvisational duo Junk Jazz, and runs ongoing initiatives like Ayaschool and the Brazilian Music Study Club Detroit, which cultivate community, process, and improvisation.

Jessica McKenna and Zach Reino build a brand new musical from nothing each time they perform, playfully pushing back against the idea that songs and stories must be meticulously preplanned. Their credits include writing and composing for the WGA award-winning Peacock series Baking It, and creating songs and musical sketches for Rick and Morty, Party Over Here, Pitch Perfect: Bumper In Berlin, BuzzFeed, FunnyOrDie, and Nickelodeon. They are also developing television and film projects with Paper Kite Productions, David Wain, and Brownstone Productions, and they created and starred in Serious Music for ABC. Their improvised musical podcast Off Book has earned praise from IndieWire, USA Today, Parade, AV Club, and Splitsider, and has been showcased at Comedy Central’s Clusterfest, Moontower, Just For Laughs in Montreal, and Netflix Is A Joke in Los Angeles. Vulture named them among its Comedians You Should and Will Know, and they released their first full-length musical comedy album, The Calendar Album, with Comedy Dynamics.

An open jam for jazz musicians led by the Bill Meyer Group brings together performers and listeners for live improvisation in Detroit, Michigan. Promoted as the city's longest running jam, it celebrates spontaneous collaboration and the shared spark of on-the-spot creation.
