His third Alligator Records album, Shut Up And Play!, features 11 original songs powered by muscular guitar work and a commanding, soulful delivery. Special guests The Butanes open the show. Roadside Park behind The Roadside hosts a monthly summer series of Fireside Friday nights with local artists providing live music. For this installment, Run Lucy Run performs while fire pits glow, s’mores are available by the fire, and cocktails and smokehouse bites are served throughout the evening. Celebrate the vibrant sound of Trinidad and Tobago with two free concerts featuring more than 100 steel drum performers from six ensembles alongside special guest Liam Teague. His virtuosity has drawn comparisons to Paganini, and as a native of Trinidad and Tobago who leads steelpan studies at Northern Illinois University, he has introduced the instrument to audiences around the world. The music begins in the afternoon with a featured set by Teague. In the evening, the program opens with League Night Jazz, continues with the Chops Pan Camp Ensembles performing with Teague to share what they learned during camp, and concludes with sets by local steel drum bands Panatics, Tin Cups, and Pan-Handlers.

Now in its fourth year, this free, all-ages K-pop celebration fills The Commons Park in Minneapolis with music, dancing, shopping, and food trucks. Their debut, Group Sex, packed fourteen tracks into sixteen minutes, and later releases like Wild in the Streets, Golden Shower of Hits, Wonderful, and IV cemented their standing. The group became part of cult film and TV lore through appearances in Repo Man, New Wave Theatre, and The Slog Movie, and their influence continues to span generations. They have returned to the stage for the first time in over a decade in conjunction with a 40th anniversary celebration and a commemorative reissue of Group Sex.

Catch a night of Latin music and reggaeton at EME Antro Bar in Minneapolis. The lineup includes Makano, Flex, Demphra, Josenid, and another Demphra performance. The show starts at 9:00 PM local venue time.

Build a foundation in West African drumming with a Level 1 drop-in class led by Dan. Geared toward beginners and advanced beginners, the session focuses on essential rhythms and playing techniques while helping participants gain confidence and a deeper feel for the music. Drums are supplied, walk-ins are welcome, and people of all gender identities are invited to take part. The cost is $15 per person per class. For arrival, plan to remove street shoes at the door to protect the new floor. The 8th season of Sunday Fundays at Gustavus Lutheran Church offers a full day of delicious eats, live music, and plenty of seating for a comfortable visit. Zorongo Flamenco Dance Theatre brings flamenco to the Lake Harriet Bandshell, representing more than forty years in Minnesota. As one of the only American flamenco companies to perform both traditional and contemporary theatrical works, the ensemble highlights the range of the art form. This appearance is part of the Music in the Parks tradition, which since 1892 has offered residents and families opportunities to enjoy local music throughout the summer. This edition spotlights Emmy Woods, who uses she and they pronouns, a Saint Paul based singer songwriter who grew up in rural North Dakota. Her music blends elements of country, folk, and blues, pairing vivid storytelling with an airy, expressive voice. Influences range from Billie Holiday and Emmylou Harris to Against Me, and she has shared stages with artists such as Melissa Carper, Sarah Morris, Ryan Young of Trampled by Turtles, and Cam Whitcomb. Although she began writing at 13, her recordings reached the public in 2023 with three collections, followed by several singles and an EP. She performs across a wide mix of settings, from neighborhood bars and markets to ballrooms and festivals, building momentum with a witty catalog, an easygoing presence, and a sound that crosses genres. The series is presented in partnership with St. Paul Parks and the St. Paul Downtown Alliance, with booking coordinated by Ostrom Entertainment LLC.

A longtime instructor at the Center for Irish Music, he has received multiple Minnesota State Arts Board grants for research into the Irish-influenced songs of Midwestern lumberjacks, and shares that work through the Northwoods Songs blog and a weekly Shamrock Shore radio program. Each installment brings a changing roster of skilled regional musicians, and the taproom keeps the music going late into the evening.

Players listen to songs, identify both the title and the artist, and submit answers on their phones, with quicker responses earning more points. A live host keeps the energy high throughout the show. Guitarist Dean Magraw and tabla player Suwal Singh share a duo performance at MetroNOME that focuses on conversation between strings and percussion. Expect a flowing exchange of rhythm and tone as the resonant colors of tabla intertwine with the guitar’s textures, moving through grooves and melodies with moments of humor, reflection, and heart. Magraw’s career spans playing, composing, arranging, producing, and recording, with work that resists easy categorization. He spent 15 years in a duo with Peter Ostroushko and has collaborated with Masahiro Nitta, Nigel Kennedy, and Nirmala Rajasekar, as well as singers Bruce Henry, Ruth MacKenzie, and Claudia Schmidt, and the Irish group Altan. In the jazz realm he performs with Chris Bates and Jay Epstein as Red Planet and has also formed BluLuna. Singh’s Minnesota projects include SitarTabla rooted in Eastern classical traditions, MoMoSauce highlighting Nepali music, Yeti Steady exploring avant garde soundscapes, Jest in pop rock, and MajMin centered on world music. He has worked with a wide range of local artists and appeared at Jazz Central Studios, Icehouse, the Janet Wallace Fine Arts Center, the Berlin Jazz Club, KFAI, the Landmark Center, and the Dunsmore Jazz Room.

Fueled by the spirit and sound of The Rolling Stones, this Minnesota-based tribute delivers a high-voltage rock and roll show. Driven by camaraderie, swagger, and a deep affection for the early years of the Stones, they fire off the hits alongside deep cuts, keeping dance floors moving and the energy up. The lineup includes Emmy Award-winning musicians and members of Enemy Planes, Dream Crusher, Run Westy Run, Space Monkey Mafia, Heartless, Al Church, and Timbre Ghost, with a rotating crew of Minneapolis players often joining in.
