The A group averages 20 miles per hour or faster at a very brisk pace with no regrouping and no rest stop, and riders may be dropped. The B group averages about 18 to 19 miles per hour, features tight pacelines with one rest stop, some regrouping, and is also a drop ride. The C group targets roughly 16 to 17 miles per hour over about 27 miles with pacelines, one rest stop, and several regrouping points, and is considered semi-drop. Intermediate riders can choose approximately 27 or 35 miles at around 17 to 18 miles per hour with pacelines, one rest stop, and several regrouping points, also semi-drop. A beginner option of about 27 miles at roughly 14 to 16 miles per hour may be added based on interest and the availability of a leader, focusing on conversational pacing, endurance, skills development, one rest stop, and a firm no-drop approach. Safety and preparedness are central to this ride. Helmets are required. Road bikes are strongly recommended, while front and rear lights, protective glasses, and gloves are encouraged. Riders are responsible for personal hydration and nutrition, should be able to handle basic bike fixes like flat repairs and brake adjustments, and are expected to know the route or have it downloaded in case of separation. Carrying a cell phone and emergency contact information is recommended. Riders must stay within their lane, keep at least one hand on the bars at all times, and be aware that portions of the routes include urban traffic.
