    Repair Café

Innovation Barn, 932 Seigle Ave, Charlotte · verified Jul 31
    Free

Repair Café at Innovation Barn offers a free, hands-on community repair experience where neighbors work together to fix broken household items, build basic DIY skills, and keep usable goods out of the landfill. Participants collaborate with experienced volunteer repair coaches who help diagnose issues and guide repairs, and no prior repair experience is required. Bring your items and plan to stay with them for the entire process since this is a collaborative session, not a drop-off service. Volunteers bring tools and have experience across many common household fixes. Some replacement parts may be available, though not all repairs can be completed on the spot. If a specialty part is needed, the item can be brought back to a future Repair Café once the part is obtained. Safety guidelines apply. Hazardous or dangerous items are not accepted, including firearms and microwaves. Volunteers are skilled community repairers rather than licensed specialists, and highly specialized needs such as fine art restoration should be handled by a professional. Everyone must remain with their item during the repair. Those interested in serving as volunteer repair coaches can email charlotte@repaircafenc.org. Repair Café is part of a global movement founded in Amsterdam in 2009, now with more than 3,000 locations worldwide. Repair Café Charlotte began in 2024 and continues to host regular gatherings at Innovation Barn.
