A five-day intensive devoted to deep practice and study of Contact Improvisation with Alessandro Rivellino and Lilianna Kane offers a supportive, focused setting for exploration. The program includes classes and jams, homemade meals, time to rest, a wood-fired sauna, and chances to dip in the river. The curriculum moves from quiet, presence-driven and somatic listening work to lively, playful, athletic scores. Participants revisit core skills for sharing weight while in motion, entering into and leaving physical contact, and cultivating a grounded relationship with the floor. Emphasis is placed on careful attention to detail and patient attunement with oneself and partners. Exploration centers on the sensations of falling, flying, rolling, and stillness, with space for spirited playfulness that invites a bit of wildness. Expect plenty of dancing. Registration is currently open.

The Falltown String Band, a well-known local group, performs live at the Voo on a regular second-Wednesday rotation.

Explore the traditional craft of transforming deer hides into soft buckskin in a three day, hands-on class led by Owl Eyes Wilderness Survival. Participants learn the complete braintan process from start to finish, including how to source and store a skin, then dry, scrape, soften, wring, and smoke it, followed by ideas for turning the finished material into clothing or crafts. Hides are supplied by local hunters who harvest deer for meat and donate the skins. Students typically work in pairs on a single hide and take home a share of the buckskin they helped create. All necessary materials are provided, and recommendations for optional personal equipment will be shared ahead of time for those who prefer to bring their own. This is a physically demanding class that rewards patience and persistence. Instruction takes place in all weather, so participants should dress for changing conditions and bring their own food. Those traveling from out of town should arrange lodging, and organizers can suggest nearby hotels or campsites. It is not an overnight campout, and each day wraps up when the day’s work is complete. Real animal skins are used. Students will handle tasks such as scraping away tissue, hair, and other material. Hides are kept fresh and frozen, and gloves, aprons, and a hand washing station are provided. Participants should arrive hydrated, well fed, sober, and ready to work hard. Instruction is provided by the Owl Eyes Wilderness Survival team.

A monthly, two-hour workshop at the LAVA Center focuses on creating and performing while wearing a respirator. Led by Molly Brennan, an Equity actor and teaching artist, the session welcomes performance artists, playwrights, singers, poets, drag performers, clowns, actors, and anyone who enjoys being onstage. Participants generate original material, refine works in progress, and build vocal and movement practices designed for masked performance. Beginners are supported throughout. Masks are required. The workshop centers artists who need or choose to use respirators, acknowledging barriers in healthcare access, concerns about air quality, and the impact of Long Covid and other airborne risks on the performing arts community. Brennan brings decades of professional stage experience, as well as a background in teaching acting, clown, improvisation, and devising new work. She works in an N95 and has helped sustain mask-required arts spaces. Her play After the Whales Spoke was featured at the LAVA Center’s On the Boards New Play Festival with a cast of Disabled actors and artists who wear respirators, presented for a fully masked audience and online viewers. Workshop themes rotate through devising, clown, hosting skills, and improvisation. Access notes include required masking, an open-door spirit to participants of all levels, an online stream, and wheelchair accessibility at the LAVA Center.

Emerging in 2024 from a weekly residency in Maynard, Massachusetts that quickly drew attention, the band also draws inspiration from Little Feat and The Allman Brothers Band to keep each performance fresh and evolving. The group is rounded out by Alex MacDougall on drums and vocals, Justin Lopes, formerly of Bearly Dead, on keyboards, Matt Caporale on bass, Joe Peck on guitar and vocals, and Brendan Tommaney on percussion, creating lively rhythmic depth for extended improvisation.

Founded in 1996 by Vinny Dawson, the project has evolved through multiple lineups while staying dedicated to more than just face paint, with each performer embodying a distinct KISS character so there is no doubt who is who. The transformation into full costumes and makeup takes about 60 to 90 minutes, and the night concludes with photos with fans. The set spans the hits and features two drummers to honor both eras, representing Peter Criss the Catman and Eric Carr the Fox.

Learn essential ways to stay warm, hydrated, and nourished in the backcountry during a beginner friendly survival class designed for hikers, backpackers, hunters, trail runners, and anyone who loves the outdoors. The course builds practical know how and confidence while helping you connect more deeply with nature. It can stand on its own or be taken as part of the OEWS pathway toward Alula Certification, and completion meets the prerequisites for Wilderness Survival 2 and 3. Participants receive an OEWS logo patch and a feather patch at the end. Hands on training covers safe use, care, and sharpening of carving tools, five core knots, building fires with modern tools, working with rabbit sticks, creating shelters with contemporary gear, disinfecting water, choosing appropriate clothing, ethical foraging guidelines, assembling a personal survival kit, the logistics and mindset of survival, and navigation with map and compass. Bring an OEWS Basic, Complete, or Ultimate Survival Kit or an equivalent setup, with the Complete Kit recommended for convenience. Dress for weather and insects, pack water, lunch, and snacks, and carry extra water for extinguishing fires. A notebook and pen are helpful, and something to sit on can make the day more comfortable. A baseplate compass is needed. At minimum, plan to have a carving tool, a ferro rod or matches, a poncho or large trash bag, about twelve feet of rope, and the items you require to meet your basic needs. Loaner gear is available, and carving tools and fire starters can be purchased at the start of class. Starting with the Complete Kit and adding a compass and poncho creates a solid foundation. OEWS recommends gear they have personally tested. Instruction is led by Tim Swanson, founder and lead instructor of Owl Eyes Wilderness Survival, together with apprentices and co instructors. The class takes place entirely outdoors and runs in most weather. If conditions are unsafe, it will be cancelled and students can reschedule into another session. This offering is geared toward adults, though mature minors are welcome. There is no fixed minimum age, and parents decide whether their child is ready for a seven hour class. Students under 18 must attend with a parent or guardian. Everyone is expected to be respectful and able to participate independently. The ticket price covers one participant regardless of age. Donna the Buffalo returns to the Shea Theater Arts Center for an all-ages show from the long-running roots-rock band that has built a loyal fan community known as The Herd since 1989. Dances are led by Amina and Arif, with each movement, chant, and song taught so everyone can take part. Beginners are welcome. A potluck meal follows the dances. In the spirit of Murshid Samuel L. Lewis, the practice focuses on uplifting the heart, nurturing joy and realization, and fostering harmony and peace.

Enjoy lights-down, music-up fun with all-ages galactic candlepin bowling at The ELMMCC. Each lane costs $15 per hour with shoes included, and up to five people can bowl together. NH Music Collective partners with The Local to present a live set from Chris Lester at The Local in Warner. Lester is a New Hampshire based singer, multi instrumentalist, songwriter and producer who began performing around New England before heading to California to join the Atlantic signed band Wild Horses. After returning to New Hampshire in 2001 he became a member of Mama Kicks, a group recognized with multiple Best Band awards by Hippo Press. His studio and touring credits include playing bass, mandolin and acoustic guitar on Sully Erna’s Avalon, co writing the song My Light, and contributing to an album that reached the Billboard Top 25. Tours across the United States and Canada followed, along with a live DVD featured on the Palladia Channel. In 2014 he performed on guitar with Carole King, and in 2016 he played bass and acoustic guitar on Erna’s Hometown Life. His work has taken him to Bulgaria and on an East Coast tour, performing on guitar, bass, mandolin and keyboards. He now plays guitar and keyboards and sings lead vocals on the Joe Walsh songs for The Dark Desert Eagles, an Eagles tribute featuring Pat Badger and Kevin Figueiredo of Extreme, and he also appears in solo acoustic shows.

If you would like to bring something for the horses, the grain they eat is Blue Seal Active Senior in the red bag and Blue Seal Hay Stretcher, and various horse treats are also used for training. Every visit helps provide food, medical care, and comfort for horses who have already given so much.
