8pm: ORIGINAL Ghost Tour of Old Town Albuquerque - Since 2001 - HELD NIGHTLY!

Discover New Mexico’s original ghost walk through Old Town Albuquerque, a locally woman owned and operated experience that has welcomed visitors since 2001. Stroll the historic lanes of this living museum and explore tucked-away corners that have echoed with life for more than 320 years, beginning with the town’s founding in 1706. Professional tour guides lead a 105-minute, lantern-lit walk outdoors that blends legend, folklore, and documented history. Stories of lost loves, Civil War echoes, murders, hangings, and forgotten burial grounds unfold as you hear reports of apparitions, disembodied voices, and objects that seem to move on their own. Learn the basics of ghost hunting along the way, with optional rentals of investigative equipment to enrich the experience. This family-friendly outing is rated PG, as some true accounts may be unsettling for younger or sensitive participants. Skeptics are welcome. Bringing a digital camera is encouraged, since guests have captured unexplained images during the tour. Most stops are businesses that are closed by evening, so viewing is from outside, and there are plenty of opportunities to sit and rest. This is a traditional storytelling walk, not a haunted house and not a formal investigation. There are no staged scares or tricks, only reported accounts, site history, and evidence gathered by investigators over the past 25 years. Recognized as New Mexico’s oldest and best known ghost walk, it has been featured on national television and radio, including the Travel Channel, Weird Travels, The Dead Files, Dead Famous, Breaking Bad, In Plain Sight, and Coast to Coast Radio. It also holds strong traveler reviews, with longstanding Hall of Fame and Certificates of Excellence honors, along with 2025 Badge of Excellence and Travelers’ Choice recognition. Dress for the weather and wear comfortable walking shoes, as tours take place rain, storm, or shine. Admission for public ghost tours is $35 for adults, before tax, service fees, and gratuity.

Solomon King (1974)

Solomon King returns to the big screen in a newly restored 1974 Black urban crime and action feature directed by Jack Bomay and Sal Watts, running 84 minutes and valid for punch cards. Shot independently in Oakland in 1973 with a cast drawn largely from the community, it showcases a propulsive soul funk score, sharp style pulled from Watts’s own Mr. Sal’s Fashion boutiques, and on-location scenes in several of his businesses. Watts stars as an ex-CIA, ex-Green Beret nightclub owner who romances star singers, faces down street crews at the Sugar Hill Club, and battles the henchmen of a power hungry Middle Eastern ruler, blending blaxploitation grit with spy-thriller cool and slow-motion martial arts flair. Beyond the thrills, the film captures early 1970s Oakland culture, music, and fashion, and leans into a story of empowerment that flips the usual script. The restoration was created from one of the few surviving complete prints preserved by the UCLA Film & TV Archive along with original soundtrack elements, with the cooperation of Belinda Burton-Watts, who also appears on screen. A reviewer likened the experience to discovering a Rudy Ray Moore classic that has finally resurfaced after decades.

Lift For Lani 6

The sixth annual charity strongman contest raises funds for Crossroads for Women in memory of Noelani Tideman, who passed in 2020. Designed as a strongman fun run for every age and experience level, it has welcomed participants as young as four and others in their seventies. All are welcome, and registration is available. Competitors can enter the usual divisions along with two new options. Complete newbie is tailored to those who have never trained for strength or are just starting out, and it includes a simple how-to overview alongside the event so it feels more like a training day than a head-to-head contest. Lifter exploring the dark side suits people with general lifting experience who are unfamiliar with strongman implements, with weights raised where it makes sense and set lower for movements that rely more on technique. Divisions with fewer than three entrants may be combined. The lineup of challenges features Big Bad John, where athletes lift an axle from the ground to overhead and hold it locked out for up to 60 seconds while choosing their own weight, with scoring based on weight multiplied by seconds held. The Deadlift progression includes five variations that can be attempted in any order—Saxon bar, country crush deadlift implement, regular deadlift bar, trap bar, and farmer handles—with scoring by total successful lifts or the time to complete all five. The Natural Stone Medley awards increasing points for lifting, lapping, or shouldering one of two available stones, with the heavier option worth more. The Hercules Hold is a straightforward endurance test of gripping the handles for as long as possible, with the longest time winning. Delivery Driver starts with a run to a wheelbarrow-style implement positioned 50 feet away, followed by a push that adds a new object every 10 feet, then a final unload where items must be placed over a 40 inch bar for women or a 48 inch bar for men. Points count only for objects carried and unloaded, none are given for anything left in the wheelbarrow, and partial credit is awarded for items unloaded but not placed over the bar. Specific working weights will be announced.

Unity Explorers Hike Albuquerque Volcanoes or the 3 Sisters

Participants meet at Unity Spiritual Center for a Unity Explorers hike through the Albuquerque Volcanoes, also called the Three Sisters. Bring water, a hat, trail snacks, and weather-ready layers, and wear sturdy hiking boots with good support. Sunscreen and sunglasses are recommended, and a windbreaker or jacket can be helpful when it is breezy or cold. This desert landscape, dotted with volcanic cones and dark basalt, was shaped by rare fissure eruptions within the Rio Grande Rift. Along the way, expect to see varied basalt textures, ash and cinders, spatter, patches of caliche, and colorful lichen. The area holds deep spiritual significance for Native and Hispanic communities, with nearby volcanic boulders bearing thousands of petroglyphs. Please respect cultural traditions by staying off the cone tops and by treading lightly. Several interconnected trails offer options for different abilities, including an easy to moderate one mile round trip to a scenic overlook with views of the Rio Grande Valley and the Sandia Mountains, a moderate 0.8 mile circuit around Black Volcano, an extension to Vulcan Volcano that adds about two miles and becomes moderately strenuous, and a 2.3 mile North Volcanoes Loop that connects to the Vulcan route and passes remnants of a historic corral. Not all segments are clearly defined, so plan accordingly, and look for shaded rest spots with benches along the main path. The landscape has endured damage from past human activity, so practice leave-no-trace habits and pack out everything you bring. Dogs may accompany hikers on a leash no longer than six feet.

Route 66 Centennial Speaker Series

Part of the Route 66 Centennial Speaker Series, this presentation focuses on agriculture, architecture, artists, bootleggers, and businesses in Los Ranchos along the Mother Road. The talk also looks at the road’s continuing impact after the route was realigned and before the Interstate was constructed. Hosted at the Special Collections Library, the program is one stop in a rotating series that will visit community venues such as the Raymond Sanchez Community Center, Martha Liebert Public Library, Gutierrez-Hubbell House, International District Library, Isleta Pueblo Cultural Center, Los Lunas Multigenerational Center, the East Mountain Library, the Central and Unser Library, and the Wheels Museum.

Ashes. Short Plays by Samuel Beckett

Presented by the UNM Department of Theatre and Dance, this program brings together four short pieces by Samuel Beckett under the direction of Alejandro Tomàs Rodriguez. The production strips theatre to its essentials to explore solitude, memory, and the tenuous need for connection, balancing wry humor with spare clarity to reveal the beauty and absurdity woven through human experience. The evening includes Rough for Theatre I, where a man who cannot see and a man who uses a wheelchair circle between need and rivalry in a bleakly comic encounter. In Play, three voices speak from urns, piecing together a fractured account of a love triangle. Act Without Words II sets two figures enclosed in sacks into motion at the prompting of an unseen force, repeating everyday routines with mechanical precision. Come and Go places three women side by side as they trade hushed confidences about one another’s hidden destinies. Performances are in the Experimental Theatre. The Layered Voice: A 3-Day Monotype Intensive

Explore monotype printmaking in a three day intensive that encourages the development of a personal visual vocabulary through a fluid, spontaneous process. Working with soy-based Akua Intaglio Inks, participants learn how to move between painting and printmaking to shape a distinct voice. The first day begins with watercolor washes on Yupo set aside to dry, then shifts into core additive and subtractive monotype techniques. On the second day the focus turns to the press, reactivating the dried Yupo paintings on damp paper and introducing drypoint etching with needle-drawn, velvety lines. The final day emphasizes further layering and brings in trace monotype, created by rolling ink onto parchment and drawing on the back to transfer marks. Throughout the workshop, the crisp definition of etched lines is balanced with the soft qualities of watercolor and traced textures, guiding participants to blend these methods into a cohesive style that reflects their own artistic touch.

Death by 5k Albuquerque

The third edition of this endurance run returns to Albuquerque with a format that stacks ten 5k efforts into a single around-the-clock challenge. Participants begin a new 5k at regular intervals, and each leg must be finished before the next one starts, with attendance required at every start line. The test includes fatigue, limited sleep, and running in the dark, so a headlamp, hand light, or other illumination is required. Between efforts, participants may rest in their vehicles or pitch tents in a grassy area near the pavilions and race HQ, with ample room for pop-up and camping tents. The course follows paved roads and multi-use paths in and around the park. Prepared meals will be served at set points during the event, and snacks, water, and Gatorade will be available throughout. Every entrant receives an event shirt and additional race swag, and finishers earn a coveted coffin award along with the pride of making it through. Registration is initially limited to 175 participants, after which a waitlist will open and additional spots may be offered or the field may be expanded. This fast-growing series also holds events in Texas, Mississippi, Arkansas, Florida, Iowa, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Alabama.
