Explore Nevada’s past on a 90-minute guided walking tour of the former Nevada State Prison, a National Register of Historic Places landmark that operated from 1862 to 2012. Volunteers from the Nevada State Prison Preservation Society lead visitors through cell blocks, the execution chamber, the sandstone quarry, and other notable areas while sharing accounts of notorious inmates, daring escapes, Ice Age fossil discoveries, and the unique, prison-run casino. The annual MRC River Auxiliary features a float down the Truckee River with drinks along the way. Participants plan to leave from Mayberry Park and finish at Wingfield, which has reopened, with about two and a half hours on the water. An after-party follows at Old Bridge Pub. To make shuttles easier, coordinate carpools and leave one car at Wingfield for every two to three cars at Mayberry. There is also an MRC Park Cleanup beforehand for those who want to take part.

The gathering concludes with an optional chance to share the card and its message in community, offering space for acknowledgment and connection. Bowling for Dollars is a community fundraiser at the National Bowling Stadium that supports the Lawrence J. Weiss Hospice Guest House, Nevada’s first and only free hospice guest house providing compassionate, no-cost end-of-life care for patients and families. Celebrate the wrap-up of the Boots Honky Tonk summer series with a riverside finale at Wingfield Park in Downtown Reno. Country artist Carson Chandler takes the stage for a live performance, and High Desert Country leads a free dance lesson open to all guests. Look forward to live music, dancing under the lights, local libations, and the signature Boots vibe that kept dancers moving all summer. It is a Western-style sendoff along the Truckee River that brings the community together for one last night of honky tonk energy.
