    Hairspray

OFC Creations Theatre Center, 3450 Winton Pl, Rochester · verified Sep 25
    See details

OFC’s Broadway in Brighton Series presents Hairspray, the Broadway musical with a book by Mark O’Donnell and Thomas Meehan, music by Marc Shaiman, and lyrics by Scott Wittman and Marc Shaiman, inspired by the New Line Cinema film by John Waters. An eight-time Tony Award winner including Best Musical, this production takes place at the OFC Creations Theatre Center and runs approximately two hours with an intermission. It is intended for ages 12 and older, and children under 5 are not admitted to any Broadway in Brighton production. Set in 1962 Baltimore, Tracy Turnblad dreams of dancing on the Corny Collins Show. When she lands a spot, she rockets from outsider to local star and sets her sights on unseating the reigning Teen Queen, winning Link Larkin’s heart, and pushing for integration at the TV station, all while keeping her signature hair intact. The score features favorites such as “Welcome to the Sixties,” “Good Morning Baltimore,” and “You Can’t Stop the Beat.” The creative team is led by director Eric Vaughn Johnson with choreography by Jasón N. Wells, showcasing professional performers from around the country. Select performances include a preview, an opening night, an ASL-interpreted show, and a post-show talk-back. Hairspray is presented by arrangement with Music Theatre International, with authorized performance materials supplied by MTI.
